Halloween: All quiet on the Y2K front!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

While I realize Y2K chiefly concerns 1/1/2000, with the kiddies all trick-or-treating, it is nice to note that panic has not set in. Yet?

Absolutely. I have two goblins in circulation tonight -- and being a confirmed doomer was afraid Halloween would be a REAL NIGHTMARE --not a greasepaint one. It's another one of those deadlines come and gone with blessed few of my worst fears materializing. With the exception of insallation of a few pieces of Y2K compliant equipment -- the woodstove; sood-fired hot-water heater, etc. -- I am well-positioned to relax and LOOK FORWARD TO BEING WRONG, but don't expect it in fact.

I even got a circular from a local food market yesterday which says "ARE YOU PREPARED FOR Y2K?" and they've got a great sale on all canned goods and water and any general y2k item. Cool! I plan on going there after work tomorrow and stocking up some more, since no one else seems to even care. Heck, at this point, the government could say "YOU MUST stock up on the following items NOW" and no one would do it.

No kidding, kritter! Hubby and I went to the Dollar General store today to stock up on some stuff and we got 10 bottles of lamp oil (clear, $ 1 each) and I was thinking "Well, this is kinda obvious" but the lady at the counter didn't even bat an eye and neither did the lady in line behind us. I think we coulda gone in there talking very loudly about our Y2K preps and all we would have gotten were some rolled eyes and maybe some snickers. But we don't. And won't.
