Da FINAL REMINDER: A Squared or be Square, the Mich Get together

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Well, the weather forcast is in and it looks like Indian Summer in Ann Arbor this weekend. Mrs Driver has relented (consented, or whatever) to climb into a car at an ungodly hour (for ME) of the morning and we will be in AA by 1230 (or so) Saturday, following the directions and maps either below or referenced, in search of CASA DOMINICK'S and all of the rest of the Yourdonite Tinfoils, and a Cory-ite or two by special invite.

Rich's final reminder to me:

Hello, Chuck and everybody........... Just an update on Saturday: The weather forecast as of today for Sat. in Ann Arbor is for mild (66 degrees or so) and windy, so the courtyard is still a possibility, especially since it is protected by a fountain-wall on the west side, from which our prevailing winds come. In any case, we have reservations for both the courtyard and a good room upstairs. When Saturday arrives, we can decide which place is better.

The only P. A. system I have access to is my portable radio and microphone, which should be adequate if we have only 15 to 25 people or so, even with my hoarse voice. I'll plan on bringing it, even if we don't need it.
Chuck, or someone: It seems to me that it would be a good idea to post another notice, confirming our festivities. I'm still learning the ropes so don't know how to start one. That was really nice of you, FM, to pro- vide the two maps. If both the directions and the maps could again be provided, we might attract a few more people.

When y'all turn on to Monroe Street from State Street, don't look for a commercial zone; Casa Dominick's is in a residential block behind the Law Quad....very Gothic and appropriate for Hallowe'en. By the way, are costumes required!?! What does a Y2K bug look like, anyway?

I made the reservation for noon, assuming we'd meet about 12:30 PM, so anyone arriving early could start early, but if you think a later time would be preferable, that's fine by me too. Anyhoo, I'm psyched and looking forward to meeting the minds and faces of the Y2K sagacious! Rich, a night jiver (ritch@umich.edu), October 28, l999

COSTUMES???? COSTUMES???? We don't need no.... I'm scary enough without one....

AND to repeat the directions
Hello Chucck and everybody, I made a reservation At CASA DOMINICK'S in Ann Arbor for Noon 'til 5 or 6 on Saturday, Oct. 30th for anywhere from 10 to 25 pe0ple. It's at 812 Monroe Street, behind the Law Quad of the University. It's not hard to find:
From either East or West on I-94, take the State Road exit, North; it turns into State Street. Drive about 2+ miles into town, past the athletic complex, past Pacckard Road and Hill Street; the next street is Monroe. Turn right two blocks to Dominick's, on your right.
From North or South on Route 23, take the Washtenaw Avenue exit West on Washtenaw. Caaution: after awhile, Washtenaaw bends to the right; follow it (not Stadium) to Hill Street (at the painted rock) and turn left (west) to State Street; then turn right on State one block to Monroe and right again to Dominicck's in the 2nd block on the right.
Parking: The owner said that on Saturdays when the team is playing out of town there's usually parking on the street (some are 3-hour meters); Better leave a little extra time in case you need to park a few blocks away...good practice for Y2K! I goofed on that garage a block away...it's by permit only, but there is ample visitor parking a few blocks west on Thompson Street, if necessary.
As I said on the first thread, Dominicck serves excellent pastas (about $6), pizzas, sandwiches, sshrimp specialties, wine, beer, a great house-recipe sangria, mixed drinks, soft drinks, in a funky, nifty atmosphere, family-owned and operated since l960...one of my two mosst favorite spots in town...(no, I'm not related!)
Questions, Chuck: What time? 12:30? 1:00? 1:30? Also, wwwhat's the agenda? a good excuse for a party and to meet the folks on the web? Fine by me! To exchange information? To pontificate? To brain-storm? Also fine by me. Do we need a mike?

and the maps are here at this link:

A2 is our kind of town!

Use the link and print 'em, because they're GREAT, thanks VIDPROF!!!

I left my neck in Ann Arbor. (At least the part between C5 and C6, at the UMICH hospital.)

OK, I'm no crooner.

Wish I could be there, but I can't.

Thanks for your good work, Chuck! Hey, all.....the latest forecast for tomorrow is better yet: about 70 degrees, sunny in the morning and a mix of sun and clouds in the afternoon; breezy, not windy. Does that begin to sound like the courtyard? Bring a warm sweater, just in case. If anybody or any- mind happens to get there earlier than I, just ask for Richard Davarti ...the manager. There are no waitrons, so just order your food and drinks inside at the counter. See you there! Rich, a night conniver (ritch@umich.edu) October 29, '99, 8:45 PM.
