stainless steel to mild steel

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Resistance Welding : One Thread

We're designing a bushing plate for a new product. Trying to securely attach a headed bushing of stainless steel(304) to a stamped metal plate. Metal plate has a hole though it for the bushing to go through. Bushing head is around .080 inch thick at about 3/4 inch diameter. The plate is .040 inch thick mild steel plate. Is this suitable for projection weld if projection is on the face of the bushing head? This joint must be leakproof. Everyone else seems to think MIG or laser welding is required. Weld process must not warp the cover plate. Any ideas? Thanx.

Its long overdue in replying. Could not help it as I saw this site today. Projection welding can de done and a leak proof joint can be obtained.Geometry of projection will be important.

You must have already found a solution to this because lot of time has passed.

If not mail me .I am a manufacturer of Stored Energy projection welders based in India.

Thanks and regards,
