POLL: AMERICANS OPTIMISTIC ABOUT FUTURE DESPITE FEARS OF NUKES, EPIDEMICS

Four out of five people in a poll to be released on Monday by the PEW RESEARCH CENTER FOR THE PEOPLE & THE PRESS say they are hopeful about life in the new millennium, while a third expect the United States to be involved in a nuclear war during the next 50 years!

The Pew poll examined what Americans expect to happen in the coming decades.

While it found that people were generally upbeat, it also suggests Americans have deep worries about the coming years, the ASSOCIATED PRESS will report.

*64% believe there will probably be a major terrorist attack on the USA involving biological or chemical weapons.

*56% think overpopulation will be a major problem, causing a strain on food and environmental resources.

"Oh my god, yes," said Michelle Nader, a 25-year-old receptionist, when asked whether the environment would be a problem. "All the trees are being taken down. The ozone's terrible. It's a mess."

*52% think there will be an epidemic worse than AIDS.

"More than a third of Americans in a new poll expect the United States to be involved in a nuclear war," reports the AP's Will Lester.

*44% believe that Jesus Christ will return to Earth in the next 50 years.

Impacting on Monday.

Any good survey includes some "control" questions like this, to help calibrate the other questions and responses.

Will they still be optimistic if some wacko group actually does the unspeakable? I think we all know the answer to that one. I hope that we never have to find out!

This Pew Research Center is probably an arm of the Pew Charitable Trust which has been pouring hundreds of millions of dollars into the advancement of the global warming theory which of course ties into the green movement, the tenets of which are put forth in the global biodiversity assessment. Their research center poll is showing them that their propaganda is paying off.

Surface warming trends have been tied to the solar cycles as far back as the late 1700's. Temperatures taken from geothermal satellites prove that our overall temperatures have remained the same (actually they have dipped very slightly) which contradicts the current global warming premise. If there were indeed global warming, we would be seeing a slow but consistent upward trend in temperatures.

I am not surprised about the question on overpopulation, but I do find it intriguing that the Pew Research center is interested in public opinion about the liklihood of nuclear war, biological warfare, terrorism and the return of Jesus. Sorta makes me wonder, knowing their background.
