Y2K Movie?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Hey everyone! My "GI" best friend said he was kickin it at home and he saw a REALLY short blurb for a Y2K movie on some NON-CABLE TV channel. I remember someone on this board talking about it in the past. Does anyone have ANY details at all? When? What Channel? Storyline?

If the thread already exists just point my in the right direction.

thanks in advance!

Suppose to be on NBC sometime in November.

Saw it advertised on NBC as being shown on November 21st. They usually have their big primetime shows on from 9-11 p.m. EST.

Yo, Rock;

Yes, the 21st is what I've heard about the scheduling -- but that'll put it just BEFORE the big Thanksgiving holidays in the states. The big holiday-shopping kickoff here will be the Friday AFTER Thanksgiving -- the 26th.

Awfully strange timing of it all -- even if it IS a "sweeps week".

first come their Leprechan & fairy movie.. then the Y2K movie. the blurbs show quick shots of bridges & streets packed w/ cars & panicing people trying to get out of cities.. then the say something like "Y2k.. did't they have a right to know... y2k.. don't they have a right to know"

I was watching NBC for a little while last night, when a short blurb came on for the movie. The only words spoken were, "What if they're right?" NBC went on, and I went back into my coma. But something vaguely disturbing kept churning around...

"What if they're right?"

"They." You know, us. You. Me. We're part of a movie, and we don't even know the script! It's starting to feel almost surreal, y'know?

Not that I don't think for a moment "Y2K: The Movie" will have at least a semi-happy ending. Showing TEOTWAWKI would no doubt put a crimp in the holiday shopping season. (Why buy Aunt Alice a Christmas present if the world's going to end a week after? Unless maybe it's that flamethrower she's always hinted that she's wanted?) Maybe it'll show a mild-mannered programmer for a great international conglomerate turn into SuperCoderMan and save the world from the evil Lex Koskinen who tries to do him in with Klintonite? (And how does Ed feel about wearing blue tights, a cape, and a big "Y" on his chest, anyway?)

I'm sorry -- off on a tangent again. My point (originally) was that -- no matter which side of this you happen to be on -- doesn't it seem strange to be in the middle of something that they're already doing a movie about? "What if they're right?", INDEED. (If you think about it for a while, it has a decidedly creepy ring to it.)

("Indiana Jones and the Temple of Teotwawki..." Hmmmmm... That has a nice ring to it.....)

I can't wait to see how they treat the Internet forums and the spread of the Y2K alarm. I do hope it's one part of the story that gets shown.

I wonder how Hollywood could portray Paul Milne? Have Robert Duval reprise his "Great Santini" character? More likely put Gomer Pyle in front of a keyboard. And I shudder to think what they'd do to poor old Dieter.
