Valuable imput from Cory and friends.

Thanks, a. I missed you.

So there are serious concerns about power, oil, FAA, IRS--the list is long. And Abrams says, about informing the public of contingency plans and supplies, ". . . we have to be careful what we say. All should have contingency plans. Three days- I know you say [[people]] should have more. After September, in October we will be issuing individual contingency plans and a guidebook to the people in America to do individual preparation and outreach." This sounds very much like the recently-announced leaflets blitz to be implemented by the UK. Not much time left to get the most popular disaster supplies, then.

Abarms also advised, "Ask local leadership what to do. If they don't know about Y2K, prepare for a lot more than 3 days." I wonder what she means by "a lot more"?

It can be easily seen from the notes that Abrams and the others are very conscious of having to choose their words quite precisely so as not to cause panic. Even with the palliative cvoering, the text is still extremely disturbing. God knows what the true picture is, what words Abrams REALLY would like to use.

palliative cvoering: sugarcoated.

yep, I had to lookit up, too.

-- lisa (lisa@work.now), October 19, 1999.

The 'guidebooks' are scheduled to be distributed in October, right? That means they have another - depending on how one counts them - 12 or 8 days left to meet this deadline.

We all know how consistent they have proved to be in meeting self imposed deadlines.

Sure hope this doesn't end up becoming Uncle Sam's 'Holiday Greetings' card. Has anyone seen an advance copy?

-- Wilferd (WilferdW@aol.com), October 19, 1999.

Sugar-coated? Oh. I thought it meant something a wee bit different, like something to keep somebody quiet--as in Victorian times when laudanum was used to quiet babies. Sugar-coated would do but I think something stronger is at work here. Thanks for mentioning that, Lisa, because I did mean more than sugar-cated.

-- Old Git (anon@spamproblems.com), October 19, 1999.

Bet those guide books will be distributed...Not by US Mail Not by Delivery, Not at the grocery store....

No I figure they will give them to some homeless types (and nobody else) and then after the roll over they will say..."We Told You To Prepare Back in October"....

I do not belive my eyes...How can this happen here?

-- Helium (Heliumavid@yahoo.com), October 19, 1999.

Uh... can someone tell me what IV & V is? I must have missed it.

Thank you.

-- Farmbeet (Farmbeet@likescory.corn), October 19, 1999.

Quite frightening; careful dodging and deflecting while spouting politically correct party line.

So many people Y2K deceived and unprepared; it is the betrayal of our people on the alter of big busness, banking and politics.

God help us all.

IV&V Independent verification & validation, I believe...

Thanks, a. I remember back when I used to go to those WDCY2K meetings back when I lived around D.C., the mood of the audience could really project a lot into how the speakers responded. I have no doubt that the speakers at that meeting, especially Janet Abrams, must have felt like they were very much on the "hot seat" at this late date.

73 days.

Y2K CANNOT BE FIXED!

-- Jack (jsprat@eld.~net), October 19, 1999.

We've already received those guidebooks here in Washington, DC. So has Montgomery County, MD. Evidently so have folks in Pennsylvania. See Pennsylvania post above...

-- Libby Alexander (libbyalex@aol.com), October 19, 1999.

Just when you're thinking about becoming a Polly BAM!!! reality strikes.

So, what about all those non-mission critical systems yet to be fixed? Can the gov operate without them? If it can, why the heck do they exist?

So, what about 100% compliance. Which organization is actually compliant NOW? Which ones are supposed to be in December?

This really sucks.

Thanks Cory and Critter.

Old Git,

>as in Victorian times when laudanum was used to quiet babies. Sugar- coated would do but I think something stronger is at work here.<

As I recall, the base derivative ingredient in the elixers laudanum would truly give us all the "happyfeel" that seems to be the order of the day.

An excellent choice of words Ma'am.

I can't wait to hear the pollyanna response. Their probably going to cover their eyes and put cotton in their ears on this one. They will start screaming something like I CAN'T HEAR YOU NA NA NA NAnanaNA NANA NMANA NA NA NAAAANNAANANANA NA I CAN'T HEAR NANANANA NA YOU NANANANANABOBONANABOBA I CAN'T HEAR YOU !!!

-- HERE POLLY (feed@polly.beforetheystarve), October 19, 1999.

This is the second time in the last week that Ive read or watched reporting on y2k where there were Gov. official on hand and the tongue in cheek remark regarding------------->

"HOPE THERE IS NO PRESS IN THE ROOM"

As I said its usually said in jest--but the meaning is oh so serious.

The other one was last week on that C-SPAM report where the intl. guy was talking about Japanese banking and Ask if there was any press in the room.

Is this amazing or what. Its a cover up right in front of our eyes. They know there cooked.... and are scared to death. It shows!!

A 'palliative' is a medicine that relieves symptoms, but does not cure the illness. Like continual credit expansion in our Ponzi-scheme economy.

-- Spidey (in@jam.armamentarium), October 20, 1999.

Was at big "insider" Y2K gov't meeting yesterday, closed door, all bigwigs, first question asked: "Anybody got a dramatic announcement of compliance yet?" No. Not one rep. Gas, oil, electricity, water, sewer, hospitals, chemical plants, telecoms, state gov, city gov, businesses, etc. Not one entity compliant yet. Not one.

-- can't say (at@this.time), October 20, 1999.

HERE POLLY

Perhaps you have recieved much abuse because you decieded to prep and are emotionally scarred by that. Try to keep this one thought in mind. This is far too important to be gloating over who was right and who was wrong. We might all be better serverd to start to pull together against any pending crisis.

Watch six and keep your...
