Newbies - TEOTWAWKI explained

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

What really is TEOTWAWKI??? For many it has already happened. If you were unfortunate enough to live alongside the Tarr or Neuse Rivers in NC, your world ended (as you knew it) a few weeks ago. If you were poorly positioned in the Stock Market, last week may have been the end of your world.

I think all the regulars on this forum, realize that whatever happens as a result of Y2K, the Market, NWO, or any of the other things discussed will not hit everyone the same. For some it will be TEOTW and for others simply a BITR and for many, somewhere in between.

For my family, 2 kids in private school 25 miles away and work about 30 miles away. Together, my wife and I drive a total of about 800 miles a week. If gas becomes a problem, and by problem I mean $2.00/gal (which may be overly optimistic), it will not be the absolute end of our world, but as the additional gas money 'ripples' through our budget, part of our world (as we know it) WILL be over. To someone with a 3 mile commute this would be a small BITR.

We are collecting home schooling stuff and I'm looking for work closer to home. We are concerned about the economy, infrastructure, other people, military responses, family and friends. For the things we feel we can control, we are prepared. We have 'downsized' considerably, not completely due to Y2K (although it did get us moving in some areas), but because a simplier, more self sufficient lifestyle is much more rewarding all around.

As far as this forum is concerned, I have been trying to keep up with Y2K and other relevant news for several years and when I found this forum, it became a big asset in the news department. Although, this forum is filled with opinions (some left, some right, and others just way the hell out there), significant events are posted with links that allow the original source of the info to be evaluated personally.

I have been labeled a 'Doomer' for several years, cost me a job (so I can relate to the post a few days ago), have tried to raise awareness with some success and many failures. We have Prepped our lifestyle as well as the pantry. There's been a lot of talk about how Newbies may react to the content here, I feel that they might well be capable of wading in, examining things for themselves and forming their own opinions (even with all the '90210 BS' that's been popping up lately). I once was a Newbie here (and am still surviving without a bunker) and still sleep like a baby at night. Keep up the good work, it is appreciated (at least outside of Beverly Hills)....

PS. For the 90210 crowd, after year end, this forum may loose some of it's luster, which might just be TEOTWAYKI

Nicely put, BH. For those who didn't see other posts, BH and his wife were down in the flooded areas, getting their hands dirty, helping others. He knows very well about the ends of various worlds.
