Watching the Asian Stock Markets...

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

The Australian and New Zealand stock markets opened about 35 minutes ago. The NZ market is down about 2.3%. Interestingly, I could not find a site that is reporting yet on what is happening in the Australian market. I would think that opening prices would have been reported by now. The Hong Kong market opens at 9PM EST.

Yahoo is usually pretty good:

However they often freeze up for no reason so you can use Bloomberg:

Regardless, it wont matter until NY opens, I have seen the expected opens reverse, for better or worse 10 minutes after NY open and nobody ever predicts it when it happens.

We shall see at 9:30 EST Monday.

Japan, Australia and New Zealand are all down. The problem is that the markets seem to move in sympathy with each other. If Hong Kong and Europe follow the trend...then it will not bode well for our stock market tomorrow morning. And as others have said, if we drop into the 9000 range, it may psychologically push people to start pulling their money out of the market bigtime in fear. I don't think any amount of manipulation will keep the market up if this happens.
