OT Hmmm...the DOW is still up 28% for the last 12 months?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Have you Doomlits always considered dips in the DOW as a sign of an impending apocalypse? Why is it such a big concern with you all?

One word: October. Go learn some history please.

Ya, no kidding. Look at the 52 week range for the DJIA: 7920.12 - 11365.93. BTW, the DOW is really not that great of an indicator, as it only averages 30 stocks. The S&P 500 and NYSE Composite are much broader based.

The doom-nuts will cling to any negative tidbit they can find to justify their gloom.

I though old You Knowwho wasn't going to post here anymore. I guess he couldn't resist since he visits here everyday to make sure he is prepping correctly.

Yeah, I wasn't going to come back but I lightened up because Ed Yourdon is telling people to lighten up, that Y2K is no big deal, and so now I use this forum for its frivolous entertainment value. I read a particularly typical Doomer idiot post and link it over to the Debunk forum so we can have a good laugh. Prepared? Yeah right. I'm holding off on doing all my grocery shopping and fuel oil delivery until the first or second week of January, so that I can avoid all the crazy Champagne buyers, and over-cautious, oil-heat home owners.

You Know Nothing,

If you'll go back and look at your numbers you'll see that in November of 98 the DOW was around 9400. One month from now, a year later, we'll be lucky if she's that high. In other words, profit = 0, or more likely, profit will be negative = loss. Good luck, pal.

I can understand your point, You Knowwho. It is extremely hard for some people to have to cater to the thought of pulling out of the market. It has been one hell of a ride. Those who have spent hundreds of hours studying the potential effects of Y2K, only look at the collapse of the market as one of the many events that have to take place before the main event it self. There not looking for the crash to gloat over your spilt milk, there only trying to justify there Preps...---...

I've got 10 chickens that have been getting bigger, stronger and prouder for the last 4 months. Everything is great. Tomarrow they meet their end. Canning some and some on the grill. Yet, they think everything is just great today. SURPRISE.
