Hello,

Florida has been very active in getting prepared for the Y2K issue. The following are the primary web sites available:

State of Florida ( http://y2k.state.fl.us/ )

Team Florida 2000 ( http://www.tf2k.org/ )

University of Florida ( http://www.is.ufl.edu/bawb015h.htm )

Institute of Food and Agricultural Sciences (UF/IFAS) ( http://www.ifas.ufl.edu/y2k/ )

UF/IFAS has been actively working on the Y2K issue for more than two years. Our initial activities were aimed at informing faculty and staff, and to survey and fix our own internal computing systems. More than 2500 PCs were surveyed and tested. Four percent were non-compliant.

At the beginning of this year UF/IFAS Extension became involved with the national effort (Extension, Small Business Administration, Manufacturing Technology Center) to address small business issues. Our efforts to date include writing general publications and distributing them along with a floppy of PC test software and the NIST CD-ROM Toolkits in conjunction with local Y2K symposia held in major cities throughout the state. These symposia were sponsored by Team Florida 2000, a group supported by the Governor's office. Also, our Y2K web site continues to expand and we are now partially funded by a USDA grant that we received last week.

What are others doing?

Regards, Tom...
