Panic Is Inevitable

Panic is absolutely inevitable. One does not need to be omnicient to see this. The handwritting is on the wall. We have example after example occurring all around us every day, now.

Why epic flooding took state by surprise

"The rains from Floyd were so far beyond anything we have ever seen that it couldn't really be forecasted with any degree of accuracy." Even the federal government's top emergency manager was surprised by Floyd's rain and flooding. "They didn't tell us we were going to get 18 to 20 inches," said James Lee Witt, head of the Federal Emergency Management Agency. "They told us we were going to get 10 to 12 inches in isolated spots. Nobody was ready for this."

=================

This blurb is hysterically funny in its parallel to the aftermath of Y2K.

"The results from Y2K were so far beyond anything we have ever seen that it couldn't really be forecasted with any degree of accuracy." Even the federal government's top emergency manager was surprised by the severity of the consequences.. "They didn't tell us we were going to get prolonged power outages," said James Lee Witt, head of the Federal Emergency Management Agency. "They told us we were going to get 2 to 3 days in isolated spots. Nobody was ready for this."

'Isolated Spots".

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAH!

NO SHIT!!! If anything was handwritting on the wall.......

More from this article....

"Forecasters had little experience with a storm as large as Floyd and said they couldn't foresee the degree of flooding that was to come. "

There is little difference between their lack of experience with a storm as large as Floyd and their lack of expereince with a situation like Y2k, A GLOBAL STORM. Yet they lament their woeful lack of preparation for the hurricane and forget the one that is far far worse that is rapidly approaching. Worse, they reccomend three days of preparations for a storm that renders three days of preparations MEANINGLESS.

BUT, the weather service ***DID*** give a serious warning. A stronger warning than they have EVER GIVEN BEFORE.

"Even so, weather officials say that they gave people plenty of notice that things would be bad. The flood warnings issued as Hurricane Floyd bore down on the North Carolina coast were ample. "We don't use the word 'biblical,' " Harned said, "but we probably came as close as we ever will with the flood warnings for Floyd. They were the most strongly worded flood watches and warnings we have ever written." State and local officials, too, rang out public alerts louder, and earlier, than ever before

"But many people didn't listen -- or didn't believe what they were hearing. By the time people realized how bad the flooding was, many couldn't go anywhere because more than 1,400 roads were flooded or had sections washed out. In county after county, the scene was chaotic"

================================

And so it will go with Y2K. But, this time the government is NOT warning anyone at all. At least, no serious warning. And by the time people realize how bad it will be there will be chaos everywhere. The government will claim that it was impossible for them to have forseen the extent of the calamity. Then they will actually claim that they DID warn people, that THEY were the ONLY ones to do so.

"We have never been at war with East Asia. We have always been at war with East Asia"

LOL LOL LOL

Easily predictable. Easily forseeable. Easily preventable.

Won't be long now, suckers.

"Bye-Bye, and I *DO* mean Bye-Bye"

Well I, unlike you Paul, can wait rationally to 1/1/00 to see if you right or just full of shit. Me thinks the latter. Nice form though, right there with John Haygee. Congrats all around to your staff, we simply must do lunch sometime.

Helium,

Canada, the USA and the UK in the fall of 1998 did tell their populations to prepare while the system had a chance of coping with it. All stated loudly and clearly preparing could not be done at a later date and would be discouraged. It was the media that repeated the alert to everyone. It was everywhere, all over the radios, in newspapers, magazines, and on sites. Even the higer ups in L.A. had said, "Everyone get some food and water and keep your gas tank above the half mark!"

Hey Jack,

Nothing personal, but can you do us a favor and knock if off with the obnoxious blinking crap? Could we maybe settle for a marquee?

Hi! I'm Joe Sixpac, well actually Joe Shortcase and I live with a bunch of other Sixpack types in a remot valley in the pacific NW. Believe me, we are alot more concerned about Y2K then about any football scores, allthough I do follow it seein as this may be the last NFL season for awhile.First heard about it when some of the boys who work graveyard at the local mill started talken about it. They heard Gary North on Art Bell. That was fall of 98 and I went out an got this webtv an have been readen up on it ever sinse. Seems to me that instead of worrying about joe Sixpacs you shold worry about what all the yups gonna do when they can't get latts or gas for the beemer and they see they ben wiped out in the stock market! The boys an I been readyin our places, stockin up on stuff, cannin, riggen up to go off line, you know. Most all of us served in the military, some in nam.Funny, the nam vets seem to be the most milatant, they think the goverment is totally corrupt an they hate yuppys. Some seem to be excited that this whole corrupt ball a wax is gonna come down.Me, I expect its gonna make life really tough, but I can hunt, fish get firewood an I got realitives in the city an borrowed ther costco card and came home with a truck load of rice beens, duck tape, canned food. Went to the goodwill and loaded up on old clothes, tools an shoes.Theres only one road into this vally and one of the boys who was army demolitons has figured out how to blow it so a landslide blocks it.Hes serios and rumor has it that some old boys down in southurn oregon gonna blow the mountin passes, keep the starvin hords down in california.So were preparin. Some rich guy moved into a manshon in the next valley.His pretty wife comes into town with her nose in the air, driven her land rover or cruser or whatever. Rumor has it that hes a Y2K refugy an hes got under ground gas tanks.Some of the boys figure hes got gold stashed there.We climbed a hill overlookin his pace to reconnoyter it. We watched thru the binoks as he and the missus was taken target practice, couldint hit shit but they got dobermans.The boys figur a little venision soaked in antifreez will take care of the dobermans. Eddie is one of the milatent nam vets. He says hes gonna get mister rich guys gold an then put him to work in his garden. Doin what I says. I will have him work at beein fertalizer he says. He was drunk so I dont know if he is serios.

Joe, sounds like your from Araknsas instead of Oregon. You don't have to worry about Californians coming up your way. Too far, and too much gas to get there. You all better be worrying about how your going to survive with nothing from California being trucked into your state. Better get more ammo because the problem will be with your own.

We are down to the last days of this back and forth what will and what won't happen. Who cares anymore. I for one can see TEOTWAKI staring us in the face. But it's my call what I will do.

Paul, All those who GI'd have made Preps,3-5%. I understand the Government's position to allay panic by downplaying y2k. there are some savy planners in the more covert agencies and I'm sure that You realize that had the Government put out the word that the nation must stock up would have quickly exausted the just in time inventories and brought the nation to it's financial knees before the true extent of the dislocation could be determined.(NO ONE KNOWS FOR SURE)The gold glotters will find that the grape vine will buzz when the first coins are exchanged for food or supplies will make them the target of bandits or worse! rest assured that enough news has been leaked to those who understand systems and communications to alert them and give them a chance to get their sh** togeather. the method used to build awareness reminds me of the Triage systems of the military, treat those you can help and leave those you can't help to their own resources! Not a nice policy but one based on reality. The time to quit the drumbeating has come and it is best to withdraw and recluse. My experience as a volunteer community y2k planner was very frustrating as few Got it! I am less frustrated now that I groked the big picture,Sadly there are not enough life jackets or lifeboats on this ship of state for 300,000,000 million. The Gov't has known this from the beginning. So lets use Ed Yourdon's actions as an example and cut the strident converting of the masses as it's far to late for conversions.Plan on helping those neighbors and families you can and stay out of the epicenters.Leave Flint, truth, y2kpro and their likes to their blindness and save your breath and use the peace of the next 2 months to enjoy the good old days and prepare yourselves psysically and mentally for the rough days to come. ie. see the dentist,optomitrist, druggist,and read all you can on pioneering and gardening. And pray and meditate ,jog and train and remove yourself away from the possibilities of civic danger.Good Luck to you all and thanks for making the Greenspun site a daily stop, I've never encountered as many fine intellects both pro and con in one place and You've all made my planning days,God bless you all!

Joe 6 pac,

Might wanna find yourself some Josephine 6-pacs to share your mountain paradise with or you boys are gonna be enacting "Deliverance" over an over again. Better stock up on KY.

-- Byte Me (Fuggedd@bout.it), October 10, 1999.

Joe 6;

You are not the Joe 6-pack I am worried about, although I would be if you were my neighbor. You have preps and are willing to take them by force from ME! On my daily walk I see, we have curb recycling here so every bodys garbage is easy to see, house up on house who DONT WORRY Drink BEER, they hang out in their yards and fix the cars.

Do they have any water barrels in their back yard? NO.

Do they have any "covered items" or food in thier garage. NO.

Do they party every weekend in the street? YES.

This is the Joe Six Pack that has me worried, I can see the yellows of his eyes. He is not prepared.

I can not wake them up, you are prepared, he is not.....

Things will get worse before they get better.......
