Ending The Y2k Discussion Party Early

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Something you all need to think about is the U.S. being nuked by Russia before the end of the year. There is a "use it or loose it" theory which has it that they may decide to use them rather than loose them to Y2k computer glitches. Remember, there are still a lot of Russians - particularly in the military - that hate the U.S. with a passion.

If this should happen, my best bet for a date (based on 20 years of military intelligence experience) would be Thanksgiving. More military people will not be at their posts and not easily recalled than any other time before the end of the year. I don't see it happening at the end of the year because everyone from the Commandant of the Marine Corps to the local postman will be on alert for negative Y2k events.

I would recommend to you all that you spend some time at this informative site: http://oism.org/nwss

I think a person or family can survive such an event, but like Y2k, only if you know what to look for and what to do.

May God be with you all, my friends.

Please forgive my ignorance but what date is thanksgiving?

-- matt (duh@somewhere.nz), October 09, 1999.

Let's see.....4th thursdsay in Nov would be, ummmmm (removes socks, uses toes, grabs cat for a couple extra toes) NOV 24 (I think)

Chuck

Nov 25, a Thursday. Many Americans take off the afternoon or evening of the 24th, so that they can be at some relative's home the next day. They usually stay several days and return Sunday, Nov 28, so they can be at work the next morning. The 24th is like a big feast day and could concieveably be considered the U.S.'s number one holiday. A perfect time for a surprise attack.

Hope I got all these dates correct... my apologies for not thinking that we have non U.S. persons on the site.

Chuck -- do you mud wrestle?

Hopefully asked...

As a military intelligence operative, I would assume that you already know that all operative systems have been kept secret for quite some time. They are only acknowledged to the public when it is evident that these systems are known by the enemy, which quells their sense of surprise. You should also know that we have been quite capable of knocking down the fastest missiles since 1991! Recently, (last week) this was acknowledged on public news. It was known to us for quite soome time. The Russians are NOT CAPABLE of bombing us with Nukes. Your point is misguided, alarmist, and totally inaccurate. Please give audience (the world) something better to worry about than this!!! Folks, this is not a threat, we can defeat this ten years ago!!!

Think so space? Then why is TACAMO still around?

Wow, Nothing, thats amazing that your calculations point to the same day that we here in New Mexico address "Flat Tire Day". By Statute and Tort law, no one in the business of flats can shine you on on this day. What a cosmic coincidence! After 25 years of getting my trucks to and fro work, I too agree that this is the most active time for all the tires to have "deflated conditions and occasions". Don't know what it means, but all my neighbors who work at the Natl. Labs went to the lake this weekend. I hope and pray they dont have a flat or a meltdown, but if Donald Trump gets a toe-hold I'm heading for Mexico

-- Roger (pecosrog@earthlink.net), October 10, 1999.

Yeah, like so many other government agencies have decided that they are no longer needed, and simply self destructed. Come up with something better than this, 'lil buddy. Oh, here, we no longer need this agency, you guys find you a job elsewhere. Okey Doke, Boss!

-- space (hooda@thunk.it), October 10, 1999.

Nothing,

And your suggestion izzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz......what? Are we suppose to stomp our feet now and go, "Bad Russians! Naughty Russians! You're a buncha poopy heads and you all go to bed without your milk and cookies tonight!!!"?

With the majority opinion being that it is perhaps a tad too late to start preparing for a mere meltdown of the power grid, on Jan. 1, are you proposing that we can all get ready for nuclear armegeddon by Nov. 24?

You'll excuse me, if I choose to focus on somethng a little more likely and a little more in my control, like prepping for Y2K.

I have heard stories that there actually WAS a small WWIII fought with the Russians--in the last days of WWII. This was of course quieted down rather soon and made "hush-hush," but the resulting Cold War was a direct product.

Russians and Americans were plowing across Central Europe in 1945, colliding in places. Some American commdanders either got lost or took liberties with the zones of control establised at Yalta. These units of American and British soldiers were quietly surrounded and WIPED OUT by the Russians. Small skirmishes, really, but enough to turn the relationship sour very early on... The skirmishes ended when the atom bombs fell on Japan. Japan had long been ready to surrender under extremely generous terms (though not unconditional terms demanded by Truman), but we held out so we could use the bomb. Not to defeat Japan: they were already firebombed to a crisp with conventional sorties. The Atomic Bomb was a clear message to the Soviets, who promptly agreed to de-escalate the brewing battle with the yanks.

I have no idea if this is true, probably not. It might make an interesting movie though.

...and your point is, coprolith? I'm just yappin. Pay no attention.

-- coprolith (coprolith@rocketship.com), October 10, 1999.

I am more inclined to think that if Russia and China decided to get aggressive they would probably try to take Europe first before messing with the U.S. They could probably do this without getting a nuclear response from the United States. By taking control of the 17 NATO nations in Europe they could cripple us economically, then sit back and wait for us to surrender to socialism out of sheer starvation.

The cold war started early, that's for sure. And you, 'lil buddy, may say too much in public. Glad that wasn't me. You sheeple that don't believe in the power above us and the secrets they keep are in for a rude awakening, if the need arises. The man that wants to create panic due to a Russian Nuclear Attack may find greetings and salutations from a President "he did'nt know". I am not alarmist, I just work here! The Cold War was long enough ago, they will let it now become public knowledge because it's just history. I was raised to believe that was a war. So don't listen to me, I'm at war with commie bastards. Or did they kill Kenney?

Dr Helen Caldicott, call your office

@, Hun....

We have the food. They are SOOO dependent on us it's pathetic! They will NOT bite the hand that feeds them. If they do conquer the rest of the world, they still can't handle America, because our forefathers saw this possibility, and forbade the Government from taking our weapons. And all foreign countries know this. Every farmhouse, city block, every nook and cranny is guarded by ME! An American, an armed American. Let them kill us all, that's the only way, and they know it. And I'll die protecting us from ANY foreign invasion, and so would you.

I thought we were all going to be wiped out by comet Lee in November 9th... this whole thread is purely academic.

-- Y2KGardener (gardens@bigisland.net), October 10, 1999.

No need to apologise Nothing, thanks for the "heads up"

-- matt (knownow@somewhere.nz), October 10, 1999.

@

We do not need the rest of the world to feed us! Also, space is correct about the armed population. Only a lunatic would invade the USA on the ground! Of course, if Der Slickmeister and his gang get their way, we may not have our guns much longer.

-- FLAME AWAY (BLehman202@aol.com), October 10, 1999.

Sounds like you are all in denial. OUR GUBMINT WOULD NEVER LET ANYTHING LIKE THAT HAPPEN. Well all you pollies shall see.

-- You'll See (pollies@get.nuked), October 10, 1999.

hey space, the russains don't have to use ICBM's, they can use suitcase nukes. AFTER y2k, they won't have anything to lose... see? not use it or lose it: lose it, then use what's left over. besides if "use it or lose it" DOES apply, they'll hit places like beijing, shanghai, nanking, guangzhou, and tehran, baghdad, amman, ankara, etc, first, people who will be a CONVENTIONAL threat after y2k, not us, we won't be a conventional threat to anybody, cept maybe canada. (hey they aren't armed, and they hafta have SOME food right?)

-- jeremiah (braponspdetroit@hotmail.com), October 10, 1999.

jeremiah,

"they'll hit places like beijing, shanghai, nanking, guangzhou"

No way! The Russians and the Chinese are getting to be good buddies. I think they are going to join forces to form the biggest socialist republic in history. The just might even be able to kick NATO's ass.

DAMN. My 29th birthday is on November 28. Happy birthday to me..... And my 8th wedding anniversary will be on December 28. We aren't getting each other sappy cards this year, nope. I'm getting him some more long johns/
