MN Y2K advise

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

I just returned from a MN state employees conference in the Twin Cities where one of the seminars was on Y2K. Needless to say, I wasn't very impressed. They have taken things only one step closer to what people need to hear and are now saying that NO one knows what is going to happen and people need to be prepared with a little food, medicine, oil lamps, blankets, wood for heating stoves, etc. They are looking at everything being OK in a week or two at most, but at least they are acknowledging that no one knows what is going to happen. Of course the banks have worked VERY hard to be ready, so everyones money is safe. Therefore, don't change your banking habits and empty your accounts.

I went from that seminar to "Laugh for the Health of It" and didn't have much trouble finding something to laugh about. It was either that or crying. I think I'll can a little more meat and stew this weekend.

Winna, perhaps they read my website?!? More likely, perhaps word is finally filtering down at least a little bit. More ominously, perhaps they are cynically putting down markers to later establish "it wasn't our fault" (referring to grasshopper deaths in early 2000).

There ARE overt GIs in Minnesota; they just usually aren't affiliated with the government.

MN has a good chance of being really cold and dark in three or four months. And once it gets that way, you're in trouble until spring. My mom in St Paul is finally a GI, after two years of our nagging. I hear she's now pestering family friends to get ready.

If you're in MN, you need wood, food, and a well-insulated house. If you don't have one, you need to work out an arrangement with someone who does. You need to stock it up PDQ.

84 days and change. Get moving.
