Help us find a new name

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Spa Mamas Name Game : One Thread

If we pick one of your suggestions, you'll see your name on our new CD, plus you get the big prize. We'll also award 2nd and 3rd prizes. What are the prizes? We don't know yet. Think T-shirts, not vacation packages. If we pick your name, you must be willing to give up any and all rights to the name. Our lawyer made us say that.

Here are the first submissions:

Soul Mates, Spiritually Yours, Higher Ground, Spiritual Retreat, Dream Catchers, Heart Music, Born Dreamers, True Colors, Meta Harmony, All is Well

This is going great. I really like Spa Pajamas. Would that mean we'd have to get a new performance wardrobe? So far, Erin's lukewarm on it. You can tell I go for the silly ones. How about Soul Pajamas? Soul Potatoes?

I think Spumoni is in the right ball park, too. Speaking of ice cream, there is a string quartet (classical and gypsy music) who call themselves the Gelato Quartet. On a more serious note, how about Vespers?

I have to admit, I never really "got" Spa Mamas until just now when I saw the explanation on your Web site.

But keeping some of your original flavor, how about "Spama Jama" ? (Or "Spa Majama" if you must...) Also, that suggests "Spa Pajamas" which certainly sounds like FUN, anyway - not to mention it fits your dream of sleeping your way around the cool resorts and retreats of the world. ;-) CS

Some suggestions, in no particular order:

Continuo - the underlying bass part in a choral or instrumental work. I've always found it helpful to think of the continuo part in my life as love, as played by God and everyone around me.

Speranza - sort of sounds like Spa Mamas, but means hope (or possibly "we hope") in Italian.

Spumoni - Since I seem to be thinking in Italian, why not spumoni? Sounds like Spa Mamas, and it's my very favorite ice cream - one that creates a near-religious experience, especially on a hot day.

Spasibo - moving on to Russian - means thank you.

Pandore - Lots of implications here. Pandora's box, containing hope; the old French musical instrument, le Pandore; Pantheismthere are probably more.

Spiritu - Back to Latin - means spiritual

Wingspan - I know, an internet bank just launched with that name. But it's a nice name, suggests flight, and has Spa hidden inside it.

This was a fun exercise. Hope you find a name that fits!

I think you should change Spa Mamas to DanErin

To me this is a very pretty name. Danerin. (Erindan?)

I think of dancing and like the simplicity of one word that is melodic.

Erin, don't know who said it above, but I liked "The BoneTones."

-- Barbara Blayne Wicklein (bwicklein@genelogic.com), December 09, 1999.

Dear Ones, SoulRaisers, Soulsters, Radiant Rays, SoulRadiance, "Dear Ones" uses the first two letters of your names Dan & Erin, Dear Souls, Heart'n'Soul, you get the idea of variations on a theme. I do believe that you can choose a name which bespeaks your musical character and presence more effectively than The Spa Mamas. I've been to Rio Caliente and saw those Mamas. I chose a different theme while nested in that wonderful valley...very magical! Love & Light, Bernadette Lea :-)

Hi! Tried to get on the listserver for the name game, but ended-up in a dead end. I've been thinking about your name while metroing to and from DC! I have always thought that Spa Mamas has the same disadvantage that "Spa Guys" would have -- it doesn't quite generate the right picture. Here are my ideas so far: Journey of the Spirit, Maritial Bliss, Sacred Scat, Now and Then

More may be forthcoming if I can't think of anything else to think about!

Love ~ Kristin

Thanks Don. Since you mentioned the Student Nurses, we might as well list Hatdance, Taxi and its precursor, NightWing. OK, then. How about Spa Llamas ? Or Soulspa ? I like the idea of a name with 'soul' in it. It suggests our spiritual connection and motown all in one word. Of course, we're don't really have a Motown sound... We don't really have to have Spa in it. Soul Mamas? Soul Llamas? Pure Soul? Rock 'n' Soul? I could go on.

(in the spirit of Captain Nelmo, host of "Pre-War Trends":) Spam Army, Spam Mammies, SpillBillies, Sweet Creamies, Spy Mimes, Spy Miners (in the spirit of L. Rod Henry:) Elvis Prespa, Pre-Fab Spouts, Spa- Ro-Jah-Ro, The Student Nurses, Harry Connick Jr.

Actually I love "SPA MAMAS"- I am clueless as to the negative connotations, only hearing the playfulness and healthful focus of the group. Play on!!

-- Don Wessels (dwessel@juno.com), October 26, 1999.

"The Name Game," huh? How about: 'Erin, Erin Bo-Berin and Danny, Danny Fo-Fanny'

Or one of my favorites: 'I Recognize the I AMness in You' or simply, 'You Are'

OK. I'll get serious (kind of). As in the case of Sara Lee, nobody doesn't like rainbows. They're beautiful, colorful, uplifting and have the promise of brighter skies, the end of stormy times, and even impending prosperity. How about: 'Rainbow Promise' or 'Rainbow Spirit'

I gotta say I like most of the first submissions, too.

I love you crazy knuckleheads!!

Back in 'the good ole days' when I had a sing-along band called "Evil Companions", we were having a difficult time getting jobs cause our name didn't "suggest" what we were about. So we 'brainstormed' for a more appropriate name; and were able to come up with: "Hot Apple Pie." We finally got the bookings we wanted!!!! For me, Spa Mamas suggests an 'All woman's band' with a laidback ttitude. :-)

I really liked the name you used to use for one of your other groups: "From the Heart." That said a lot in a few words.

For comedy you could go as: "Johnson & Johnson = First Aid for the Heart"

How about "The Be Do" as the name of your group?

Helen and Warren Powis suggested Angel Voices.

Response to help us find a new name

Well I am glad you asked because I must admit Spa Mamas never worked for me. Now if Dan looked more like a mama, maybe. But I would guess people who don't know you would be expecting half of the Mamas and the Papas to show up. Now, do I have a better idea, not sure I do. Names are very personal things. I will put some prayer in it. Blessings
