Heard on WGMS-FM radio 103.5 this morning: 1. Commercial by PEPCO (elec.) to the effect that "for {X number of] years we have brought you 99.9% uninterrupted service. However, in case of a temporary loss, we are selling a generator for just $999.99." LOL

2. News followed shortly thereafter. Newscaster said "PG&E said that compared to Floyd, Y2K will be just a hiccup," and then he added, "but sometimes hiccups last a long time." Guess he GIs!!

Elaine, they've already administered the teaspoonfuls of sugar. What next? Collective morphine to ameliorate and cover the symptoms of the World On Hospice. But the disease is terminal and the End will come fairly quickly. How many of us will be around to witness the last gasps?

Been hearing an ad from the Methodist Church about everybody pulling together for y2k. In the background, some guy is wailing away on a song about "that big 'ol y2k"

I am getting the distinct impression that, especially in the cities, the potential impact of Y2K is starting to finally sink in, but is being administered in small, humorous doses, giving a sort of surreal effect. Like, "Hmmm, the electricity could cease. So that is why they are telling me to buy flashlights and batteries." Or, "The banks may scramble everything, so I may lose everything, and nobody will be able to use them. So that is why they are telling me to keep good financial records."

It will be interesting to see if John Q. Public is, with less than three months to go, going to figure out that this is equivalent to being told, "Your arm is broken. You should apply a bandaid to your finger.". Unfortunately, as late as it is now, I am starting to agree with the pollyannas -- panicking people probably would be as bad as anything Y2K could bring.

86 days.

Y2K CANNOT BE FIXED!

Jack...got a little wordy there eh? : )

"Unfortunately, as late as it is now, I am starting to agree with the pollyannas -- panicking people probably would be as bad as anything Y2K could bring."

Absolutely! And in the end what difference will it make? It will occur, regardless. This is the point I've been trying to make to my DGI friends and family. In the end, regardless of whether people panic over fact or fiction the results are the same. Run on banks, run on supplies, lots of worry and confusion...interesting times.

Thanks Jack.

Mike
