Owl. It's not a dream--it's a movie and a poorly written one at that. Ridiculous plot and over-the-top characters.

On my way home, I walked by the pharmacy which just put in its Halloween window. Now that struck me as especially weird!!!! Halloween! We're expected to go on as usual?

Quit sniveling, sissies won't last in the future... things are what they are and there's no time like now to get your mind right.

My friend, there is a difference between reality and snivelling. We are about to enter a bad dream for many, prepared or not. Get ready to rumble....

And Christmas already in the windows! Looks like they skipped Thanksgiving. Halloween taken on eerie disconcerting portents, those ghoulish masks. Plus all sorts of useless cute doo-dads glittering in the displays, ppl strolling around buying them. We have been sucked by a relentless Octopus into a Digital Twilight Zone, and nobody else even sees the tentacles or hears the swoooshing sound sucking stronger southward ...

Oh Owl, I feel just like you do. Ever since I was 18 years old (I'm 45 now) I always felt "something" would happen around the year 2000. I even moved to rural VA 4 years ago on 5 acreas because I still believed this. Then I found out about Y2K about 2 years ago and ZAP, I felt inside that this was part of it. While I watch the people I see around me go about their lives without a care, making plans for the bright future, I feel like I am in the Twilight Zone. I wonder "Am I crazy?" But I know I am not. I was so glad to discover this forum awhile back. Makes me feel less alone. But this "in reality" "out reality" feeling remains. We will all know soon enough. Know you are not alone and others feel as you do. They say "Life is but a dream" anyway.

If Y2K is as bad as I feel, I plan on trying to be the best person I can and will try to see it as a challenge. I've already changed in a few ways, such as not wasting anything, prepping for any emergency etc, and I've already learned many new skills such as canning, cooking less expensive dinners etc.

Those on this forum have been studying govt. reports, trading info. so I believe we have a bit more knowledge than the folks who read the daily newspaper. Plus our gut feelings tell many of us that things are going to be different around here. So YES, we are in the Twilight Zone, of change.

Its tooooo weird. I look at the construction going up, the new condos, the new highrises. I realize people have to work etc, but still, it all reeks of escapism. At work we talk about accountability in the new year, new reporting mechanisms...I shake my head. Does anyone really believe this? Its a bad movie alright, with two camps divided, and a whole lot of sheeple stuck in the middle. We are about the enter an era of severe have and have-nots. I know this is all obvious, but the reality of it is pretty intense if you think about it. I mean, we are going to war, basically. War with a capital W.

Isn't it luverlie, I smell it in the air, Christmas time is almost here. Of course there is not pomp for Thanksgiving, except for Foster Farm Turkeys, Sara Lee Pumpkin Pie, Idaho Mash Potatoes, and Swanson's Turkey Gravy. However, we can all bypass the big glutton dinner, save your money, time and energy, and volunteer to serve the same meal to the poor and less fortunate. Everyone will be the same, everyone will be fed, everyone will be thankful. What shall we do about the next day? What happened to all the poor and the volunteers? Oh I see, it's just another day in paradise.

Owl, Didn't mean for that to sound so nasty, I understand the feeling of surrealism. I saw the economic collapse coming and began preps in '92; (oops! I'm still not compliant - I meant 1992) The fedgov has had us in their sights for a long time and by their own writings coming out of Hillary's village and algore, they want to reduce the world's population to 500 million just for starters. Look into who Muarice Strong is and his writings and you'll see what they have planned. Y2K comes as no surprise, a perfect linchpin to yank the drainplug. Fear will only paralyze...

debi think anyone with any sense or soul feels it i do... not looking forward to it and hate i cannot convince more(even in my own family) especially my own children, they think i am crazy, i always thought is why i brought them into this world was to raise them and protect them but they are grown and will not listen to me, makes me hurt inside for my own and all the ones that are hiding their heads in the dirt

Just remember, the day after Halloween, run to the stores and buy up candy and lightsticks at half price for Jan.

-- Homeschooling Grandma (mlaymon@glenn-co.k12.ca.us), October 06, 1999.

I am seeing my own position more clearly lately. I am a doomerpoly or polydoomer who believes that things will be most difficult but we all will survive. To put that in perspective, I get the feeling that there are many folks around town who see me and think "Y2K" nut. I am the resident crazy dude preparing for nothing. Is this how Noah must have felt? But I must add that I do not believe that this will be "THE" end of the world as we know it and I do not believe that Jesus Christ will return on January 1st. However, I believe the Christ's second coming is rather imminent.

I believe what you all are describing can be found in the Bible.

When the Son of Man returns, it will be like it was in Noah's day. In those days before the Flood, the people were enjoying banquets and parties and weddings right up to the time Noah entered his ark. People didn't realize what was going to happen until the flood came and swept them all away. That is the way it will be when the Son of Man comes. Matt. 24:37-39

Regards

-- Norm (Prez22@aol.com), October 06, 1999.

Norm, the 2nd coming must be imminent, because I can hardly imagine things getting much worse than they are now. The sooner the better.

-- (formerly known as nobody@nowhere.sii), October 06, 1999.

Sandy, I know what you mean. Both my daughters (teens) "humor" mom. My husband is a middle of the road on this. So I find I am the one running from store to store to buy the preps. He's done much prepping too but now he has chilled out and "wants to enjoy the next 3 months". I try to do the same but find I keep thinking about what more I can do to ease my family into what I know in my heart is around the end of year bend. I find that I think about Y2K a great deal each day. If I try to talk about it with him, he says I am ruining what is left. He has a point, but then again...I need to go to another store to stock up. I feel like I am being obsessive compulsive about this but then my inner voice says "you need to get this tomorrow." My parents, sister, other relatives....forget it..."The govt. will not let the stock market crash or things get bad because then it would affect them" (my mother's words). I keep trying here and there to help them to understand what is at stake ("Oh, we'll have a few days of food and water and a few extra meds, but it's not going to be bad. Trust me Debi, I'm your mother. Have I ever lied to you?") I feel better knowing I've tried my best, that's about all I can do.

-- Debi (LongTimeLurker@shy.com), October 06, 1999.

I hate to encourage him, but Patrick is right. Yes, Y2K will be traumatic. It will likely weed out the incompetents. But a minute of worry is a minute wasted. Prepare as well as you can and be (or pretend to be for the sake of others) brave.

Okay,

Bible lesson time. For those who believe what the Bible says. Others can disregard this --

Jesus described the times leading up to His 2nd Coming in Luke 17:

"And as it was in the days of Noe, so shall it be also in the days of the Son of man. They did eat, they drank, they married wives, they were given in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark, and the flood came, and destroyed them all.

"Likewise also as it was in the days of Lot; they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded; but the same day that Lot went out of Sodom it rained fire and brimstone from heaven, and destroyed them all.

"Even thus shall it be in the day when the Son of man is revealed."

-- Luke 17:26-30.

Now notice the activities noted in both Noah's and Lot's times: "they did eat, they drank, they bought, they sold, they planted, they builded". Normal activities. Not a hint of hardship. Jesus very succinctly parallels the events immediately prior to the Flood and the destruction of Sodom with the events immediately prior to the 2nd Coming. Reading Genesis, we see that everything was quite normal in Noah's time, and in Sodom, right up until the time that God poured out His judgments by water and by fire, respectively.

SO...if the 2nd Coming is near in time, Y2k will be not much of an event. Things will be absolutely normal, by the world's standards, immediately prior to the 2nd Coming, by Jesus' own testimony.

If Y2k is an earth-shaking event which sets civilization back by years, then the 2nd Coming will also have to be set back by years, before the *normal* conditions delineated in Jesus' prophecy can be in place.

Just that simple. If you believe the Bible, that is.

-- Chicken Little (panic@forthebirds.net), October 06, 1999.

Another evidence along the same lines:

The apostle Paul wrote this:

"For yourselves know perfectly that the day of the Lord so cometh as a thief in the night. For when they shall say, Peace and safety; then sudden destruction cometh upon them, as travail upon a woman with child; and they shall not escape." -- 1 Thessalonians 5:2,3

"Peace and safety". Not travail and hardship. Things immediately prior to the 2nd Coming will be quite hunky-dory, by worldly standards, according to Bible prophecy.

Accepting that as the truth, or not, is a matter of one's personal beliefs, of course.

-- Chicken Little (panic@forthebirds.net), October 06, 1999.

i already stocked my y2k candy. got to keep the mine and the neighborhood kiddies from total depression. i don't think christ will return this year or next either. i think things will "clear up" someday after y2k and he will come then--because the bible makes it clear in a number of places that his return will be during a time of relative prosperity and business as usual.

i think he will use the next few years to add to his flock through a bit of hardship. we have been praying for revival for so long--i can't help but feel that once the tvs, radios, movies, and all that noise goes off--it will be too scary and people will begin looking for answers. i hope to be ready with some answers when they do.

From: Y2K, ` la Carte by Dancr near Monterey, California

One day last week, I was driving in town, stopped at a traffic signal, near the Halloween store. Somebody who was apparently doing a promotional for them was dressed up as a very good "death." He was weaving between cars and stopping and looking in their windows, pretending to pick up his scythe. It was SO eerie.

-- Dancr (addy.available@my.webpage), October 06, 1999.

Don't be afraid. Those that prepare will survive and thrive in the next year, while those that squandered will die. If you have the supplies, you will have the power over those that don't. This is what we have prepared for. Don't be afraid to take your rightful place as rulers of the earth.

I would have LOL too!! If someone would have told me some of the preps I would have made I would have never believed them. As crazy as it sounds I think my whole life has prepared me for this. All of the lives that have touched mine & all of the experiences I have had, have 'come together' in an amazing way. So many things I have learned which had been dormant have been awakened and applied to my life. It's very wierd, but in my life I believe it was meant to be. Just more pieces of the puzzle falling into place.

Chicken Little,

The first part of that verse says that He will come as a thief in the night, which is why I don't expect it to be around the rollover, too many people prediciting it then.

The second part of the verse says, "when they shall say peace & safety". Not necessarily that there will be world wide peace & safety. Check out the U.N. web sight @ http://www.un.org/ Peace & Securtiy is their 'middle name', they are dying to announce 'peace & security' at last. They call their army a peace keeping force. Secondly when in the world is there not travail & hardship??? Travail & hardship around the world seems to be life as usual in my view. I don't really need to list examples of that do I? You are living in a disaster area right now, are you not? [which I'm really sorry to hear about btw]

Also in the days of Noah a few got ready for the coming storm while the rest ignored the warning & partied on. I cannot believe you would use the Noah analogy to refute the possibility of our Lord's return. It is life as usual out in the general public. Been to any weddings lately? I have. I've got a friends big annual Birthday bash coming up. People are decorating for Halloween & having parties :-), we will go to dinner for Thanksgiving & buy Christmas presents and celebrate the New Year. It's the roaring ninties.

The irony is that I agree with your conclusion, I just don't agree with your arguments.

Matthew 24:6-14

"And you will be hearing of wars & rumors of wars; see that you are not frightened, for those things must take place, but that is not yet the end.

"For nation will rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom, and in various places there will be famines and earthquakes.

"But all these things are merely the beginning of birth pangs.

"Then they will deliver you to tribulation & will kill you and you will be hated by all nations on account of My name.

At that time many will fall away & will deliver up one another & hate one another.

"And many false prophets will arise, and will mislead many.

"And because lawlessness is increased the love of many will grow cold.

"But the one who endures to the end shall be saved.

"And the gospel of the kingdom will be preached in the whole world for a witness to all the nations and then the end will come.[end]

So "they will cry peace, peace" but there will first be wars, famines, natural disasters, lawlessness, the killing of Christians, false Christs & prophets, and the whole world will be reached with the gospel.

More Christians have been martyred this century than all other centuries combined. There are Christians being crucified literally right now. The Gospel has almost been preached unto the entire world. (wars & rumors of wars, natural disasters too many to count!)

It is getting closer, and by the time it happens I'm pretty sure we (Christians) will have been looking up for quite some time saying "hurry!!!!"

Peace!

-- Deborah (infowars@yahoo.com), October 06, 1999.

Hey Chicken Little...the days of Noah were hardly normal in the eyes of God. The "marrying & giving in marriage" were with those sons of God - Nephilim - from the root word "nephal" in the hebrew. Fallen angels, the wrong 1/3, whose offspring were a bastardized being, mighty men, men of renown, "gebor." This was the reason for the flood, and Noah was saved because he was "perfect in his generations" which had nothing to do with behavior or moral perfection. The word used was "tamin" which can only imply physical perfection. He and his were the only ones that had not had their blood corrupted by these nephilim. You literal bible readers crack me up!
