Martial law? Military and Floyd

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

The section of NC that was hit worst is chock full of military bases. The Marines and NG have been doing wonderfully. Only they have the vehicles and techniques to get into some of the isolated places to get people out. They are risking their necks doing it, one Guardsman has died in an accident already. Many of them, especially in Kinston where the Cherry Point USMC Air Station is, have seen their own homes damaged or destroyed.

There has been little need for armed patrolling because there has been very little looting. Of course we are different from NYC or LA, but also most of the areas looters would likely go are inaccessible or underwater, which means most of what the looters would want has been destroyed.

But mostly everyone is too busy to think about stealing anything.

The saddest part is the dead that are being found after the water goes down.

I haven't heard a recent report as to whether the EPA has been able to prevent further chemical spills in Tarrboro. I went camping this spring on a site on the banks of the Cape Fear river sandwiched between two chemical plants, one Dow I think, and one Monsanto. They were built on the river to use the locks for barge traffic. I can only guess what they look like now.

I am glad you are getting the help you need. Y2K is much different than a flood or any other natural disaster. People won't be busy and property won't be ruined. If the power stays on, there shouldn't be much looting. In a flood, no one person or agency can be "blamed" (although the corp of engineers usually takes some flak). Y2K people will be caught off guard and they will look for someone to blame. If law enforcement comes down hard on people, the people will push back. Look at the "King" riot in LA, they allowed that to run it's course and it finally ended. My riot, looting, mob madness scenario depends on the utilities. If they go down, watch out. No amount of army, police, national guard will stop what will happen in major cities.

Good luck in your time of crisis. I hope you get some sunny wheather to dry everything out. I have been through floods myself and it is a huge mess to clean up.

This is why we are hearing that "Y2k will be no problem, but we can expect some 'cyberterrorism' at the rollover." They will attempt to blame Y2k disaster and disruption, or perhaps just the worst of it, on hackers.

>No amount of army, police, national guard will stop what will happen in major cities.

That's why they've drafted the "Mad Max" plan to drop special forces "Hostage Rescue Teams" (remember the "hostage rescue" technique they used at Waco?) into the worst areas.

We sold our country out to globalists for a 401k, and didn't mind when they played cut-and-paste with our Bill of Rights. Now that 401k is going to go up in smoke, and the boot is coming down on our necks. It's a whole new world order.

Best include some kneepads in your Y2k preps, eh?
