RUSSIA, CHINA SET FOR JOINT MILITARY EXERCISES; TALBOTT SAYS AMERICANS SHOULD NOT FEAR

Russian and Chinese warships will take part in first-ever joint maneuvers next week

The Russian Pacific Fleet destroyer Burny and missile cruiser Varyag will visit the port of Shanghai on Oct. 2-6, the ITAR-TASS newswire is reporting.

During the visit, the two Russian vessels will hold joint exercises with ships from China's Eastern Fleet. It will be the first joint maneuver between the two nations, ITAR-TASS said.

Russian Navy spokesman Igor Dygalo: The maneuvers are "another step towards strengthening cooperation and mutual understanding" between the two countries.

China has become the top client for Russia's military business, purchasing billions of dollars worth of jets, missiles and submarines.

Deputy Secretary of State Strobe Talbott has said Americans should not fear the developing relationship between the powers.

Asked during a recent political conference whether the expansion of NATO would encourage Russian-Chinese relations, Talbott said that there was no reason to fear such relations and indeed, that the United States welcomes them.

Talbott's odd ambivalence could be rooted in the fact that he personally believes that Russia, China, and the United States may not exist in their current forms in the 21st Century -- because nationhood throughout the world will become obsolete!

Just before joining the Clinton administration, Talbott wrote in TIME magazine -- in an essay titled "The Birth of the Global Nation" -- that he is looking forward to government run by "one global authority."

"Here is one optimist's reason for believing unity will prevail ... within the next hundred years ... nationhood as we know it will be obsolete; all states will recognize a single, global authority," Talbott declared in the July 20, 1992 issue of TIME.

"A phrase briefly fashionable in the mid-20th century -- 'citizen of the world' -- will have assumed real meaning by the end of the 21st."

Talbott continued: "All countries are basically social arrangements, accommodations to changing circumstances. No matter how permanent and even sacred they may seem at any one time, in fact they are all artificial and temporary."

Talbott's belief that the United States of America and other nations are "artificial and temporary" has caused a rift inside of the State Department, the DRUDGE REPORT revealed earlier this week.

"I think we are losing sight that we work for the American taxpayer, not Russia, not Asia," one State Department veteran told the DRUDGE REPORT in Washington. "Mr. Talbott is completely consumed with world order and has alienated many career employees here. [His] attitude borders on obsession."

Al Gore, Lonnie Guiner, Dr. Elders, Strob Talbot, Janet Reno ect, ect. I've always said that I feared Bill Clinton's Rolodex more than I did him.

Islam? Hello? They won't join up, Strobe. What then?

Let's see... all of the NATO countries combined vs. Russia, China, Iraq, (who else would jump in with the commies?). Hmmmm... sounds like a war that no one could win. Armageddon?

Woody the Cowboy: Buzz!! You're flying!

Buzz Lightyear: This isn't flying. It's falling with style!

Thank god for grandchildren, or I wouldn't have a clue who Buzz and Woody are!

Talbot has got to be delusional. Does he really think the Russians and Chinese will agree to be assimilated by the Borg of all countries?

Shelia,

That's exactly what I was thinking. That stupid bastard doesn't care who dies as long as there is only one government. If he thinks that Russia and China joining forces is still going to allow for a one world order then he must be on their side. Unless we want to submit to socialism we might as well strike now before they start practicing together. Catch Russia off guard while they are screwing around in Chechnya. Once they are allied with China NATO won't be able to take them without a virtual Armageddon. Hey maybe now that we have control over their nukes for the Y2K rollover, we could shut 'em down and ATTACK! Yeeeaaaah!!

Sheila, @... I think the problem - from Talbott's viewpoint - is that WE would never submit to One World rule.. not as long as we see the U.S. as THE dominant world power. WE need to be taken down a few notches..

Reduce military forces, scatter the remaining forces far and wide.

Change nuclear policy to lower alert levels, reduce authority of submarine commanders, and change from "launch on warning" to launching only AFTER accepting a first strike.

Give Russia and China our military secrets and a few billions for their military buildup.

... and a few dozen other things designed to weaken us... oh yeah:

Make sure the world knows how vulnerable we are to cyberattacks, biological and chemical attacks and weakened DoD due to Y2K, and be sure the American public does not prepare to be self-sufficient for any more than a weekend.

Then.. Talbott tells us.. no need for worry.. don't worry, be happy.

Going to be a busy weekend in the Pacific:

Oct. 2 - 6 - joint military exercises by China/Russia (pay no attention)

Oct. 1st - 50th Anniversary of Peoples Republic - big plans in Beijing. Parades, military maneuvers, arrest of dissidents... the usual.

Oct. 2nd? U.S. to fire missle from Calif. to test anti-ballistic missle defense. Supposed to be shot down by rocket fired from Marshall Islands. (what a coincidence in timing) (Sorry... can't find the link right now.. thought it was on CNN, but can't find it).

And of course East Timor.
