Milne edges ever closer to the deep end

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

This guy is truly a lunatict. No wonder his mother even thinks so. Watch him really get wierd as the new year rollover gets closer and closer. Thank god he is out in the woods and not near society where he would be able to harm someone when he really snaps. Maybey theres a reason nut-cases like this (and the Unibomber comes to mind) tend to isolate themselves from society when they lose their grip on reality?

Begin quote from c.s.y2k, complete with maniacal laughter:

From: Paul Milne Topic: Laughing My Ass Off!! Message: 1 of 5 Sent: Mon, 27 Sep 1999 21:18:16 -0400

I guess, by now most of you in this newsgroup have a pretty good take on the messages of John Ko-skin-em'. There is no doubt at all in anyone's mind EXACTLY what he has been saying since he came into being last March. In a nutshell, he has done ANYTHING but warn people to prepare. He has done ANYTHING but explain that there will be serious problems. He has done ANYTHING but inform the American public of the true state of affairs. Now, this article wants to annoint him. Hold on to your seat!

========

"We can't surprise people," Koskinen said. "There are going to be Y2K failures on New Year's Day."

( BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Wait, let me catch my breath. He has done more than any one government official to dispel any notion of serious problems occurring. And now, at the eleventh hour, he is coming out to say that he 'can't HIDE this'? BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH! If ever there was a case of take with one hand and give with the other, this is it. Now, when it all comes down, he will have spent a year and a half DISSUADING folks from serious preparation AND be on record so he can say "SEE! I told you I could not hide there would be problems.' If I could take the Lord's name in vain, I would here. This is MASTERFUL. Absolutely MASTERFUL. Bravo! Bravo!! I'll bet he said it with a straight face while pulling a cigar out of his breast pocket. "Im going to say this one more time. I DID NOT hide that there would be problems....... with that computer thing. " I'm gonna puke.)

"What Koskinen and others fear is a late realization by Americans that they should stock up -- or should have stocked up -- on money, food and fuel. According to one scenario, this could happen as late as Dec. 31, if Americans see problems pile up in the 17 time zones that will ring in the new year ahead of the United States. "

(If this actually is the case, why did they not say so EXPRESSLY two years ago? The fact of the matter is that they did not because their every waking moment was spent doing EXACTLY the opposite. This is "1984" all over again. "We have never been at war with EastAsia." We have always been at war with Eastasia' Is the American public, so dumbed down, so stupid, so intellectually bereft that it does not see this? YES. A resounding YES! America deserves every bit of anguish that it is about to recieve as a WELL DESERVED testimony to it's incalculable aptitude for self-delusion. Such amazing arrogance I have rarely seen. When the citizens not only fall for this folderol but welcome it with shouts of "MORE! MORE! they deserve everything that they are going to get, in spades.)

"People ought to prepare, but they ought to prepare early," said Koskinen.

( BWAHAHAHAHAAHHAHA! BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Send the rescue squad! I'm choking...I'm choooooking! BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Joseph Goebbels is spinning in his grave. "Pinwheel Joe" they refer to him as now. He repents in sackcloth and ashes that he ever thought of himself as a Minister of Propaganda in light of Kosky's work. When did you EVER warn the American public to PREPARE EARLY, or AT ALL, you VILE LYING SACK OF SHIT? Any time you even condescended to mention the word it was in derision, scorn, downplaying or in an effort to recommend what could not possibly constitute preparation even to an embarrassed boy scout. Additionally, telling them your deep concern for them to prepare early at the eleveth hour is a 'roll me on the floor and smear my ears with jam' laugh riot. .)

What makes me fall on the ground GAGGING, nay, BLUBBERING with laughter is the first line of this monumentally SPECIOUS article....

Y2K bug out, panic is in as new year fear By David Westphal Bee Washington Bureau Chief (Published Sept. 27, 1999)

WASHINGTON -- In one respect, the man responsible for preventing a Y2K debacle in this country may have done his job altogether too well.

BWAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

BWAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

First they crown him savior, BEFORE the fact, in COMPLETE contradistinction to reality and the evidence but what's worse.....they are saying that he DID IT TOO WELL.

BWAHAHAHAHAHAAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA!

But wait! there's more!!

"The fact that Americans are once again shrugging off the Y2K menace reflects how much progress has been made during the last year. "

(Really? This is a ridiculous fallacy. The number of people who believe one way or the other has nothing to do with the situation at all. This is like saying that the fire chief sent only one fire truck so it can not be a five alarm fire. And once again, they laughably refer to 'progress' as if that was an indication of anything at all. How does it reflect that progress has been made because most people shrug it off? Duuuh! The most recent Cap Gemini/Rubin Survey shows that over 40% of 14.5 MMMMILLION small business have DONE NOTHING yet to remediate and are 'waiting' to see what happens. Is THAT an indication of how much progress has been made? LOL LOL LOL To them, sure it does. "See, last week 45% had done nothing. See what wonderful 'progress' we are making with less than 75 working days to go?"BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAH! PULLLLLLLLEEEEEEEASE!)

========================

I am absolutely apoplectic. STUNNED. Bumfuzzled.

The US is going down, going down BIG TIME. And it is going down more from its arrogance than anything else. "You know what" comes before a fall.

Won't be long now. So long suckers.

my Dear Me. A-Mased

Sir...While Mr. Milne does, at times get dramatic in his descriptions. What scares me more are the deneighal(sp) buttheads such as yourself. At least I will have nothing to fear from him or his. They have prepared for a rainy day. But I am in serious concern about yourself and your brethren in ignorance.

Why not go out and buy yourself a little "FOOD" insurance..Then set back and enjoy the show. Because Sir...It will be a curtain closer when the problems hit.

And there you will be, no food, no friends who have food...And the milk of human kindness will have gone the way of Darwin's law.

A thread started yesterday about the Capitol Alert article:

http://www.greenspun.com/bboard/q-and-a-fetch-msg.tcl?msg_id=001TkZ

"We can't surprise people," Koskinen said. "There are going to be Y2K failures on New Year's Day."

-- Linkmeister (link@librarian.edu), September 28, 1999.

I have no idea whether anything is "going down", but the fact is that it's too late for society to prepare. Individuals can still jockey for assets and resources, but society's fate (whatever it may be) is already engraved in stone. It is simply too late to "stock up early."

Shakey,

Sure, all the

BWAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA!

stuff is a little annoying to read. Sure, an idea such as "America deserves every bit of anguish that it is about to recieve as a WELL DESERVED testimony to it's incalculable aptitude for self-delusion" can be difficult to process emotionally.

Sure, it may turn out to be "not so bad" afterall. We don't know yet, do we? Still, every indication leads to the POSSIBILITY of huge, society-altering changes. If it doesn't shake out that way, you can laugh at Milne all you want next year. And if it does? Will you be A- Mazed when someone says "I told you so"?

One thing that Milne may be missing in the statement "In one respect, the man responsible for preventing a Y2K debacle in this country may have done his job altogether too well..." is -- what was really his job? I don't believe that his assignment really had anything to do with coordinating remediation efforts, and I don't see any evidence that he does that. He's a PR flak. What and whom is he PRing for? Answer that (fairly obvious) question, and you may find that he has indeed done too good a job!

Then, that gives new meaning to the statement "The fact that Americans are once again shrugging off the Y2K menace reflects how much progress has been made during the last year." Not remediation progress, but PR progress!

"Then, that gives new meaning to the statement "The fact that Americans are once again shrugging off the Y2K menace reflects how much progress has been made during the last year." Not remediation progress, but PR progress!"

Exactly.

In "classic" software development, there are important (but compared to Y2K, minor) disconnects between project PR and project progress. Because the "clients" are typically at least somewhat technical themselves, there is an inherent barrier against the really outrageous stuff.

For instance, CEOs and legal counsel, while they play a role, usually absent themselves from controlling technical communications, both because they don't understand them and because, in a sense, they don't care about them. Except for rare, corporate live-or-die projects, they expect a certain slop and leave the blue-collar guys (for so is regarded even top programming mgmt in the corps) to fiddle with the bits.

With Y2K, the executive office PR program has been calling the shots, both for gov and big biz, ie, on what will be "communicated" (viz., the NERC's pre-result decisions on what would be communicated about progress), whether about progress or the need for preparation.

Consequently, while remediation work is obviously widespread and intense, relatively speaking, there is little logical (or, I suspect, even organizational) connection between the work being done, or not done, and the communication of that "progress". After all, since we here on this forum disagree about progress, do you really believe that execs aren't simply writing the releases with their PR guys to suit the markets and the lawyers? I know they are, based on past experience.

Contra the big wave of pollie wishful thinking that the worst of Y2K is already behind us, the reality is 4Q 1999 marks the beginning of perceived Y2K effects.

Milne is precisely correct that we will only have our own arrogance to blame for the impacts on our country and our family, friends and neighbors.

If we are lucky, very, very, undeservedly lucky, post-Y2K might just see an examination of a PR-culture run amok, a culture that wants to lie and be lied to above all else.

-- BigDog (BigDog@duffer.com), September 28, 1999.

As someone who has actually met Paul Milne, I can tell you (and I'm usually a pretty good judge of character), that the man is not only sane, but genuinely concerned about the consequences of Y2k on the unprepared. His son, Matt, whom I also met, was remarkably well- adjusted, polite and seemed to have an easygoing spirit, not necessarily the fruits of an lunatict (your spelling) as a father. Paul's from New Jersey, so you gotta cut him some slack for his attitude. But, hey, to the hard of hearing you must shout and to the visually impaired you must draw big caricatures. I've tried the calm voice of reason with those I correspond and with audiences I've addressed in print, in person and on radio. Calm don't work.

-- Kurt Ayau (Ayau@iwinet.com), September 28, 1999.

Paul Milne tells it like it is and I appreciate it. The two faced lying scumbags that are in positions of leadership will be the ones to blame when this whole debacle turns out to be a 9 instead of a 3. My eyes have opened to the power that the politicians, media, and the big business crowd have to distort the truth to their own ends. There is always an agenda. This I have learned.

Thanks Paul----your writing style is somewhat inflamatory but the content is there. Keep up the great work.

Hey, all I said was that I think he's a psycho. Hell, even his Mother and family think that. I have read some of these Y2k forums on and off over the past couple of years. Milne and a few others have always been a little 'off the rocker' as far as I can tell, but the closer the doom dates get (Oct 1 is Friday, I think thats supposed to be a big date), the wierder they get.

Don't get me wrong, I kinda enjoy reading a lot of this stuff, it can really be funny sometimes. Its kinda like watching old Monty Python episodes, silly beyond belief! The wierd part is that those guys were comedians, the tinfoil hat folks in these y2k, religious, black helicoper, and NWO internet forums actually take this stuff *seriously*!! LOL

Better get yer tinfoil adjusted, keep having fun and don't let people like me or reality spoil all your fun.

A-Mazed,

If you put Y2K in the same group as all of that other crap, just ask yourself one question.

Why is the world spending hundreds of BILLIONS of dollars, trying to fix the problem?

This isn't a hoax, or a conspiracy, or a cult. This problem is very real, and the results will be just as real.

I hope we are bringing you much enjoyment. It may be hard to find any in a few months.

Sysman,

You asked: "If you put Y2K in the same group as all of that other crap, just ask yourself one question."

Well, I don't know how much you read this board, but every one of those topics has been frequently aired on this board. TB2000 is very 'Art Bell'-ish

"Why is the world spending hundreds of BILLIONS of dollars, trying to fix the problem?"

Because it was and is a recognizable problem. Certainly not the end of the world, but a problem. I am sure there are companies not putting the effort into it they should, but their competetors are, and stand to pick up their market share.

"This isn't a hoax, or a conspiracy, or a cult. This problem is very real, and the results will be just as real."

Agreed. I just disagree with most here on the results. Some people post with glee in here about "Billions dead" "You will watch your children die" etc. Finding glee in far-fetched notions such as that is a little sick to the average Joe, I'm afraid. I feel certain there will be problems and disruptions, but certainly not the end of the world.

"I hope we are bringing you much enjoyment. It may be hard to find any in a few months.

I love America. I absolutely hate what it has become. The Constitution was an amazing attempt to protect the liberties and rights of the citizens of the states. The courts have miserably failed to protect us from 'stealthy encroachmnets'. The legislators ( and I use the term loosely) have no clue whatsoever about their appropriate constitutional roles. with the possible exception of one like Ron Paul.

Our present government would be utterly unrecognizable to any of the founders, and I say this wholeheartedly, I believe they would march on Washington to destroy it immediately, if they were here today.

Washington, himself, would salt the ground to a depth of a foot, so that nothing might ever grow there again.

And yes, the single reason that I am so vocal about Y2k is one thing....People are going to die as a direct result of the consequences. I try to warn people. A lot of misanthropic knuckleheads, then come out and say, "He 'wants' people to die". Of course this is foolish drivel. But it serves the purpose of unreasoning idiots.

I do have a political agenda. I want to see this bastardization of the constitution put to an end, one way or the other. I would prefer peacefully. But if not peacefully, then what ever it takes works for me. If that means that the country is devastated by the global economic failures of Y2K, it suits me just fine.

Does this mean that I 'want' to see people harmed? of course not. But miscreants will assert otherwise, being the unreasoning anilmals that they are. What I want is to have my God given rights and kliberties protected. I want YOUR God given rights to be respected and protected. And if they are trampled into the dust, the way they are now, and the majority of the citizens could not care less, then I say, that they ARE NOT Americans, NOT worthy and deserving of the title and deserve the rewards that their folly has earned. Yes, EARNED. They have earned and deserve to be destroyed.

If America was attacked from without, by a foreign invader, we would all hope to destroy that invader, defending America and its constituion. Why then, do you all become so upset when that very invader is identified as coming from WITHIN our own confines? Why are you so happy to hear talk of defending against foreign invaders and yet NOT domestic ones? They are always far more insidious.

As a matter of fact, try reading the oath of office for the President of The united States. He pledges to defend us against enemies, foreign and DOMESTIC.

But you just can't bring yourself to beleive that our constitution has been destroyed, rendered moot, by the ignorance, apathy and disregard of so great a gift by the citizens themselves.

I am willing to bet NOT ONE of you here can tell me, (from memory, no cheating) how Senators were elected in the original constitution, what was the Express purpose of doing it that way, and why it was so vital to our safety from the Federal government to do it that way.

Anyway, enough rant for now.

-- Paul Milne (fedinfo@halifax.com), September 28, 1999.

No one ever got the attention of the American public by being a self- effacing, soft-spoken, mild-mannered, always polite spokesperson.

I love Paul Milnes' writing style. He's got gonads and isn't afriad to let them show.

Is he sane? Well that depends, I suppose, on your intepretation of sanity. Many effective leaders/public figures have not been considered "sane" or "normal" by their peers. Was Gandhi "sane"? Was Walt Disney "sane"? Was Margaret Sanger "sane"? Who the f*ck cares?

What Paul Milne is IMHO, is a clear and articulate voice begging for reason in a world gone completely mad. I love the BWAHAHAHAHAs too. They give punch, color, and levity to a dark dark subject.

Well said Paul, in both your posts, the dramatic and the serious. More people need to get that this is about the constitution and patriotism. If our fathers stood on the shoulders of their forefathers... then we are "sitting" on ours... too lazy to realize what is actually happening to our country and our futures. While we were watching television eating potato chips, the quality of leadership in government and the humanity in big business has degenerated because we stopped being interested. We let our "surrogate parents" run the show, steal the profits, and let greed rule the day. I only hope enough of you wake up and have the courage to take back our country after the fall cause I've been in enough third world countries to know they're not the place I want to raise my kids. Any of you who did time in Nam will smell the same stench of a government working for big business at the expense of its people. If you don't know what that smells like...take a whiff.
