Silence :) I'm not sure what to make of this... The scan looks very soft, I assume the photo is better. I would do some drastic cropping (from the original) and sharpening.

I think the elements are there for a great photograph. The only thing I would change is the cropping. The horizon line is right at the 1/3 point, but I still feel that there is too much water. Unlike the sky, the color of the water doesn't vary, so I'd crop more of that out. I also like the sun less in the center. Of course this is all nit-picking, as I'd be happy to have the original on my wall. Here's what I did with cropping:

I think that both of the suggested crops are much too severe. I like the water off to the right as it gives the ship a destination. Cropping the image close on the right makes it look like the ship is on a collision course with the sun. The only crop I would make is a little of water from the foreground to bring the ship a little closer.

I like the way the horizon interesects the ship, sun just touching the horizon, the graduated sky coloring.

OK, I'll take a swing at this.

What ship is she? Nina? Mayflower? I give up.

There's a reason that there appears to be no obvious way to post an image to an image critique site, right?

The instructions are pretty clear, you just need to type the URL properly (in quotes). Unix is case sensitive, so you must type (JPG not jpg - if that is the filename on the server).

If this is was taken in Tampa, FL, then you've artfully captured the one boat that ruins my sunsets - I hate thoses canons, even though my kids get a big kick out of them.

Actually, I like your original shot and the cropping suggestions offered by others. What are the technical details? Did you use a Cokin or Tiffen graduated or orange filter?

Actually you are close, it was taken in Clearwater. I don't know about your boat but this one didn't have any canons. It was some kind of sunset party cruise, I managed to underexpose this shot enough so that the christmas lights hanging from the rigging are not visible. No filters used, it's just pure gulfcoast sunset, underexposed.
