need to find: They came for the Jews,

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Poetry : One Thread

I am not sure of the wording but I'm looking for a poem to share with a group of teenagers. It's meaning is something like " they came for the Jews, but I wasn't Jewish..." and then lists other groups until finally they came for me...and there was no one left to help me.

Who will speak up ? ( In Germany they first . . . ) by Martin Niemoller In Germany they first came for the Communists And I didn't speak up because I wasn't a Communist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I didn't speak up Because I wasn't a Jew.

Then they came for the trade unionists, and I didn't speak up because I wasn't a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Catholics, And I didn't speak up because I was a Protestant.

Then they came for me - - and by that time no one was left to speak up.
