Is A. Greenspan giving us his best George Baily impersonation

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

The famous scene in the movie where Jimmy Stewart stems the tide of panicked citizens of Bedford Falls, who want their money. He manages to squeek by with a few dollars left. What a great scene. I cant help but draw parallels between that scene and what A.Greespan is having to do today.

who knows how much is left as we speak, who knows how close it will get!! Unfortunately this is not a movie where the script can be manipulated

Yeah, I gotta say we're pretty close to the turn here. I think we crested the wave about 6 months ago, but the boys on the street have been playing pretend for some time. It is now time for them to pay the piper. On Moneyline last evening, they had 4 analysts discuss the state of the onion and one of them actually had the balls to say he thinks the onion is not well at all.

You should have seen the analysts squirm and gnash their teeth at that thought. He said that "perhaps this economy is not quite as strong as some seem to think". At that point one of the other analysts chimed in with this prescient comment "Hey look, it's gonna be fine....I mean everyone said the thing was going last year and it didn't....companies will find a way to show growth....last year they used the Asian thing and this year the writeoff of choice will be Y2K...blah, blah blah" Here is an analyst on national tv explaining (albeit somehwhat naively) exactly how the system is currently functioning. At that point one of the other analysts jumped ship, as it were and chimed in with "Well, I don't think we can say that we've thrown out business cycles altogether, no we can't say that".

No boys, you certainly can't. Ours has moved on.

Hope you're paying attention on Main Street USA. This WILL impact you.
