Lane, I have read your little quips in this thread, they are cute! In facdt, I imagine you wearing your tin foil hat as you post them, lol...

Regards,

Hey, FF. I have written thirty-some articles on Y2K.

Why don't you write a few articles in reply to mine, demonstrating with "facts" just where I have been wrong.

Not holding my breath....

-- Lane Core Jr. (elcore@sgi.net), September 15, 1999.

FactFinder,

Ohhh Nooo, say it isn't so! You are not one of those "tinfoil" nuts, are you? I have seen so much of that sort of statement from the Pollies on TB2000, with Y2k Pro leading the pack. From what I can see, those who sink to the level of calling others "tinfoils" lose all credibility. Can you imagine Paula Gordon, or Ed Yardeni, or Ed Yourdon, Bonnie, or Rick, or Roleigh, doing such a thing? Certainly not! Say you didn't mean it. Say you just lost your temper, or something, and gave into a mean impulse.

-- Gordon (gpconnolly@aol.com), September 16, 1999.

Gordon: "Say you didn't mean it. Say you just lost your temper, or something, and gave into a mean impulse." I can't say those things Gordon!

For serious posts I do try to give serious replies (unless I'm in a non-serous mood), but I like humor as much as the next guy, and on occasion I will give a non-serious post a non-serious reply...tis my humor, warped though it may be.

The tin foil hat thing is funny to me, I am waiting on someone who has a good sense of humor to come up with a symbolic representation for us "poly's" (guys in suits with dark glasses, or something funnier) at TB2000. See this thread for more examples of my warped humor:

Hey Lane, thanks for the invitation, but I really don't want to do this. And deep down, I don't think you want me to do this either, lol..

Sorry. Quoted from euy2k thread Embedded Systems Revisisted.

-- Lane Core Jr. (elcore@sgi.net), September 18, 1999.

Lane, I've had a hard time taking anything 'FactFinder' says seriously, ever since he was accused of remediating, "Billy-Bob's Doughnut Emporium".

Everyone knows Billy-Bob's doughnuts aren't compliant. :)

A thread....about me? I'm honored. Have fun :)

Lane:

You're kindof pulling a "Ray" here, dontcha think? "Answer my question...Answer my question..." If one chooses NOT to answer a question, it MUST mean that a person CANNOT answer the question.

I've seen you address mainframes in a similar manner to your addressing utilities. You have experience in NEITHER. Factfinder has experience in utilities and I have experience in mainframes...even mainframes used by utilities. I've posted many of my experiences regarding Y2k and mainframes, and have been met with responses by folks with NO experience in mainframes. I could debate with folks on these topics until the cows come home, but "To what end?" Your mind is made up on utilities, just as King of Spain's mind is made up on mainframes and time-machine testing. Since no logical presentation will modify your pre-conceived notions, there is no point in pursuing the discussion.

-- Anita (spoonera@msn.com), September 18, 1999.

Anita,

You are a stitch, too. If there's no point in pursuing the discussion, then why are you pursuing it? Anyway, with all your expertise in mainframes, why aren't you writing that Polly essay that Cory has been waiting for?

-- Gordon (gpconnolly@aol.com), September 18, 1999.

Gordon:

I'm not pursuing ANYTHING. I'm simply attempting to explain to Lane why factfinder may not choose to answer his questions.

I have absolutely NO interest in being included in one of Cory's newsletters. I haven't even figured out what role Cory exactly is playing in the whole Y2k thing, and (Ray's moan here) he does NOT answer my questions on this topic. [grin]

Speaking of stitches,

Here's a description of a polly (or his and his family's fate in 2000, anyway):

Epitaph (if there was one) 19?? - January 21, 2000 Shot while trying to break into a house Preceded in death by his three children Wife: location unknown, but last seen leaving against will with gang members

MY family will not have this fate.

There are better horse operas than the one you summarize. Some of them are pretty good. Broaden your horizons.

-- Flint (flintc@mindspring.com), September 18, 1999.

Factfinder has been involved in serious Y2K research for quite a while. He has helped me out a couple of times on euy2k, finding the exact information that I was looking for. I for one appreciate his input, even if he is a polly and me a doomer. Don't shoot the messenger. <:)=

-- Sysman (y2kboard@yahoo.com), September 18, 1999.

Anita, who the hell do you think you are, telling me what my mind is made up on?

Shove it, Babe. Shove it.

-- Lane Core Jr. (elcore@sgi.net), September 18, 1999.

Sorry, Anita. Please forgive my temper.

Still, who are you to speak for me?

Did the electrical utility industry conduct valuable drills on April 9 and September 8-9? Yes. Have I said so? Yes.

Did NERC choose those dates for maximum PR effect, counting on the ignorant and gullible in the press to publicize the industry's exercises as tests rather than drills? Yes. Have I said so? Yes.

Does that mean that the industry isn't ready for Y2K? No, it does not. Have I said that it doesn't mean the industry isn't ready for Y2K? Yes, I have.

So, is there something else you know about my mind that I don't?

-- Lane Core Jr. (elcore@sgi.net), September 18, 1999.

Lane:

I do believe that YOU began this thread with a link to Greenspun's "Welcome to Usenet", followed by a link to "Embedded Systems Revisited" on the Cowle's forum (to which I have NOT acquired a password and have NO intention of so doing.) It seems that YOU are the one blowing in the wind here...NOT factfinder.

I've read MANY of his responses on the Cowles forum (before it became password-protected.) I've read some of your articles put out by Westergaard, but, IMHO, Westergaard went downhill when they began allowing folks with (for example) YOUR experience to comment on the progress of areas in which they had no experience.

IMO, your responses speak for your personality. You can't even get a grip on your anger before hitting the submit button. You then come back with the "I didn't MEAN to blacken your eye/crush your ribs." Okay...so I did spend three years on an abuse/rape hotline.

Your opinions became even MORE meaningless to me by your response to the thread wherein the "silver bullet" was discussed. Ah yes...let's now judge a country's progress by the willingness of the populace at large in that country to propose a fix.

-- Anita (spoonera@msn.com), September 18, 1999.

Have a nice life, Anita. What a freaking waste of time you are. :-)

-- Lane Core Jr. (elcore@sgi.net), September 18, 1999.

Don't expect an apology for that.

-- Lane Core Jr. (elcore@sgi.net), September 18, 1999.

Lane:

Are you trying to quit smoking too? If so, I understand very well what you're going through. It's a terrible experience for you and everyone around you, indefinitely.

-- Flint (flintc@mindspring.com), September 18, 1999.

So, with all this speaking on his behalf, is Anita factfinder's keeper?

You play in the fast lane, you're going to get hit. It's a core issue, Anita.

Hey Flora, I bet Anita wrestles with pointed needles.

Never been a smoker. But I do have a cold.

Ok, that's it, you asked for it Lane. Meet me in the playground after school.
