Help the Historians Define Koskcism

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

In the thread below I used the word Koskcism in reference to the school of catastrophe management proupounded by John Koskinen.

1. How would you define that school of thought for the historians?

2. Should it be pronounced Kosh-ism or Kosk-ism?

3. Is there a better word? Koskinenunism?

I have high expectations for the forum. After all, you guys came up with the terms ClubFed and VaporDate (for predicted compliancy dates)!

I think whoever was heading up the DOD when the 2-byte year was "standardized" should bear the blame. Maybe he/she has a catchy name.

Joseph Goebbels, the infamous WWII German propaganda expert, would have called Koskinen a shill.

But today spinmeister is more popular.

How about Kosspinmeister ?

As opposed to say, Engineering, as the preferred method of dealing with the Y2K problem.

Ah, once again it is time for a spate of Kosky-bashing. The guy has the worst job in the world, and on top of that has a bunch of gnats buzzing his ear.

A better question might be: what would you TB2000 big-brains do, were you to be given Kosky's job?

How about "Disaster?"

Johnny, I think you've got your terminology wrong. We are the small- brained peons, capable only of instinctive self-preservation. We just want simple facts so we can execute our knee jerk acts of petty self- preservation.

Kosky, on the other hand, is a big-brained big picture thinker who determines what facts should and should not be made public for the good of his regime. Kosky believes that the ends justify the means, whatever those means are. Without question, the means include deception and long term risk of public health. And all of this pertains even if y2k is a bump in the road.

A large part of Kosky's job is disinformation. I have no sympathy for the person who remains in that job. And, apparently, he feels that when it comes to deception and disinformation, he's your man.
