"No Safety Issues" = Safety Issues!

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Recently we're hearing that 28 nukes may not make it for 1/1/2000, but we're assured there are no safety issues involved.

-pause-

You and I know they're speaking of plant shutdown safety, or, running on less capacity safety, etc., but let's get outside the box.

If 28 nukes (or 25, 20, 18, 15) can't continue to supply power, what safety issues arise in the local community from the lack of power, regardless on whether or not the plant can shut down without risk?

I'm sure that hospitals, fire and police departments, businesses and joe sixpack rely on that power for "safety".

I know I'm preaching to the choir here, but I guess I encourage everyone (including myself) to read between the lines on these so-called "news reports", which are nothing more than press releases with a byline. Encourage the local news reporters in your area to dig.

One example: Our local power company, Tacoma Power, has been sending its folks throughout the city proclaiming "no problem". Yesterday, Tacoma Power shows up on Energy Sec. Richardson's list of "dirty dozen" utilities that may not make the rollover.

Keep your powder dry and your paper squeezably soft.

Aren't you the buthole that had GPS nonsense plastered all over your homepage...some crap about "insider info" and how it was going to affect the power grid...also some garbage about 9/9/99; until around April, then you changed it all without admitting you were lying about it in the first place?

I hope you are not a real paster but just play one on the internet.
