Look -bks-, it's our Y2K pal, Rick.

OH NOOOOO! He's running OS/390 Version 1.2 which sort of works but when he runs Version 2.6, the Y2K compliant levelset, the system touches the mirror!!!!!!!

How can this be?

Note to denialists, if you don't understand the issue, it's you.

We have 114 days now, it's time to come to terms with Y2K.  The work didn't get done.  The testing is franticly going on, just starting in some places.

I have clients who cranked hard and did their testing in 1998 leaving all of 1999 for contingency planning.

If you don't have a good technical solution for Rick (and don't bother checking the group, the two current replies are non-answers, maybe soon though.), you  might consider taking some milne-esque, timmay-ish, simple, inexpensive, boy-I-always-wanted-one-of-those, I once paid $7.50 for corned beef hash and an egg at a Sheraton, I'll buy 24 cans for $18.00 why not, measures.

I'm not saying that everyone needs a fine assault rifle, a farm with a 1/2 acre pond, 100 fruit trees, or 30 acres of corn.

But everyone can tilt their diet toward simple, inexpensive products, can set aside food, cash, and other items just in case.

Those of you who are undecided, keep in mind that there are 114 days left and the mainframe shops that run the civilized world are reporting problems in testing.

It doesn't matter what Ko-skin-em thinks is going on, what the
denialists of c.s.y2k hallucinate, or what I say.  I've cross posted numerous Y2K testing problems from the mainframe newsgroup.

They are doing the testing now, with 114 days to go.  One post was from shop that couldn't *start* testing.  There are 50,000 of these large enterprise systems.  35,000 run the operating system called MVS (or OS/390).  Each one of these monsters runs a large enterprise, a large corporation or a major division, the city or state government, etc.

When these fail, it will not be fixed in, oh, 2 or 3 hours.  The problems will take weeks, months to resolve.  No amount of screaming, no money, nothing can make time out of thin air.

Something really strange and horrible will happen.

Here's a touchstone.  If anyone says, this is not a problem, the burden of proof is on them.  We have Rick's full problem definition above; pollies, "Fix it."

In 114 days, we will see very unusual things.

I hope I'm wrong.  I hope that -bks-, DS, JEM, Holland, Belasco, CET, and the other pollies are right.

They're not.  But hope springs eternal.

Oh, and I'll mention Anita Spooner, GregS, Anita Evangelista, Old Git, Pam, Frank, ET, King of Spain,  just for the fun of it.  I've noticed that a lot of the greats of c.s.y2k are returning for the grand finale.

Cory:

Flora, the King of Spain and I have needlepointed a sign for you: "Will mudwrestle for tuna," in gratitude for your insights and humor.

I hope Cory wasn't including me (or Old Git, or even KoS) with the Pollies. I might be miffed, if he was.

-- Anita Evangelista (ale@townsqr.com), September 09, 1999.

Taking Cory's recommendations in my normal fashion, I did check the thread:

http://www.remarq.com/trans cript.asp?g=bit%2Elistserv%2Eibm%2Dmain&tn=50025014&sh=01047fdaf0772eb a&idx=-1

Cory may think they were "non-answers", but apparently Rick didn't.

Maybe that's why they responded?

Anita - reads like a big compliment to me.

dw: I don't post to csy2k -- my durn cheap computer won't load the site. Too many Pollies in that list for me to feel comfy being associated with 'em. I'm miffed, but it's wearing off.

Folks

If you want to check out CSY2K here is a quick way to do it.

This is through Infoseek power search which I have set by date so the latest posts come up.

Personal I find this forum more fun :o)

Brian, there is something wrong with your link.
