8. [Y2K] The Canadian Forces reportedly plan to train selected units this fall to use force in dealing with domestic problems stemming Y2K related incidents. This is in contrast to government and military officials past statement that troops would be unarmed and provide emergency aid as in the case of the 98 ice storm. [OttCit 4 Sep A1]

This is just incase there is hoarding of Beer.

Kidding

I noticed this before and as a Canadian we are alot less freaked out about our military as a rule than the States. Of course it is alot smaller. But they did catch some guy over in Vancouver BC with bombs to blow up utilities in select places in N.A. so there may be a reason for the consern. It would be pretty hard to have martial law in Canada IMHO as rioting in the middle of winter up here is unheard of. I would think that if there are problems that -30 will be an effective deterant to start with.

I think martial law is the least of our worries if things go to S**T.

By the way they were talking "emergency measures" at the start of the year to possibly go into effect last March. It was not needed.

Brian,

You're also less freaked out about your government telling you what you can and cannot READ. No offense, but there's no vestigal monarchy down here. We don't accept that our lot is to be herded around at gunpoint - we solved that little problem some time ago, and will do a further maintainance/repair job if necessary.

Liberty mentioned

We don't accept that our lot is to be herded around at gunpoint

Well being on the internet the reading thing is redundant, but this "herding around at gun point" is just to funny. Where did you ever get that idea? As I have pointed out before the Canadian Government gave Quebec the right to vote to be a country in their own right. That kind of thing would be impossible to imagine in the Excited States. Quebec voted it down and now it is a non issue.

I think you have been watching to many westerns.

Brian, you don't need to worry about MARTIAL LAW in Canada. You've already got it! no habius corpus laws,NO illegal search and seizure laws.(I discovered this when mounties in Prince rupert burst into my motel room, conducted a wild search and then left without an apology or explanation!)besides Canada's best ,Princes Pat's Canadian Light was disbanded so you face rioting mobs in Hongcouver with police who say stop or I'll say stop again. At an early age I discovered that 12 Canadian families own or control 92% of all business and production. Talk about commercial colonies! You must be too young to remember Tru-do-do's raids in French Canada. I'm sorry that a once great Canada has fallen into most possibily the worlds most draconion crypto-fasist state,You can't even owm a firearm. Many of my Canadian Bilderburg buddies are elated at the way Canadians are toeing the line and expect them to line up willingly to recieve the dreaded chip.Good luck cheezers ,you'll need it.PS I still weep when I think about what Macmillan has done to the precious BC coast.

Fats K.

I was disputing the Army marching us around with guns, not some of the issues that you raise. And there are some difficult issues in Canada. But I do not believe that you throw out the baby with the bathwater. Percentage wise conduct in Canada is quite civil. You may not be aware of the politics in BC which has reached new lows lately. There are faults and some are serious but none that suggest throwing away the system that we have, the good part and the faults. It may not be perfect but it is the best we have.

Freedom has many forms, at the momment we have a know pedifile that is legally allowed to have books of child pornography, and another that is trying to find a place to live in BC. They should be fed to the polar bears in my mind and then they would know what it is like to have something bigger than them maulling them. Drunks can rape women and then say they were out of their mind. These things bother me more than the topics that are mentioned above yet is has been through the courts.

I do remember the FLQ and am concerned about "Hongcouver" the clearcuts that stretch as far as the eye can see is a crime, overfishing, big family interests and the PPCL leaving BC was not a good thing. We do not have a army base in BC. It does make a person ponder.

But if I am going to panic it is when I see things like the Quebec Ice Storm when people are at the mercy of the elements, that was a defining momement in Canadian history when the country (matter of fact the U.S. of A) came together and assisted people in obvious need. The Army got alot of goodwill from that and I will always stand up for them.

And when we need them on the west coast when it "falls into the sea" I for one will welcome any efforts that they will provide to those that need it. There are people born today that will have the "privilage" of witnessing the greatest disaster in human civilization.

Liberty takes many forms but ultimately Nature will rule.

Brian, your correct,Liberty takes many forms but few will last under the NWO.I agree that the forces may be your last line of protection. But with no weapons, who protects the people should the military run amuck? there are far too many wannabe's sucking rations these days to make me comfortable. But you sound like a bright and well meaning soul and I'm sure you and your wonderful Canadian bretheren will figure it out and clean house one day soon--12 families owning 92% of everything!!!!!Hummmmmmm Makes ya wonder.Peace neighbor,Fats

Fats

Thanks for the goodwill although we are "miles apart" in understanding.

Liberty to me means that if I had a million dollars to spend it would make little differance in my lifestyle as I know what is meaningfull to me. If I am able to continue in my path then I am happy.

Also remember there is no freedom without personal discipline. Something that seems to be lost in the understanding of freedom. JIT mentality is a farce, it takes decades of life to achive personal excellance in what ever choices you make. And then acheivement means nothing if you don't understand that it is the process of the acheivement that is more important that the acheivement itself. In modern times it seems the house and the car are the acheivement not the ability to add to your meaning in life.

Freedom of personal growth is what is important not just the freedom of aquisition. If you ask me it is western civilization that is failing not the countries or our leaders. They just follow the wims of the masses.

That is why Clinton has not be driven from office, because it is the belief of the common folk that he has done nothing "wrong". It is a connondrum (sp?).

I wish you well on your path Fats K. I just hope you realize what that is.

Fathead -

Buddy, you need to come up here where the air is purer - it'll help blow out the cobwebs in your mind.

Are the Eatons on your list of the 12 families that own 92% of everything? If they are, then you need to update it - their empire just went by on the gutwagon.

Oh, by the way, your reference to "Hongcouver" was racist. No ifs, ands or buts. Shame on you, Brian, for not taking this up with Fathead.

Finally, the idea of Martial Law in Canada is pretty laughable. We have an army that could put about 30,000 troops - maximum - in the field (if you include reservists). I think there are more combat troops at Ft Bragg. Besides, operating those roadblocks in January would suck big-time. Ever try and march on frost-bitten feet, Billy?
