Railroads in southwest Virginia

greenspun.com : LUSENET : ACL and SAL Railroads Historical Society : One Thread

I am looking for historical information about railroads in Lee County, Virginia (southwest Virginia). Can anyone point me to a good source giving names of early railroads of this area, dates of construction, anduse of "section houses."

You may have to really look hard, but if you can find a copy of THE INTERSTATE RAILROAD by Ed Wolfe, Old Line Grahics, there are several pages of information in the front of the book that detail the operations in Lee County in the late 1800's. I picked up a copy last year from Cajon Rails (pronounced Ka-Hone Rails). It's their stock # 110-110, and they can be reached at 1-800-352-2923.
