Wake me when its over

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Is anyone but me just tired of waiting? I will never have enough time or money to prep. I am sick of the spin and debate. I treasure every day I can still drive to my fave dance club, drink hot sake and dance to screaming electric guitars but enough is enough. Just wake me up on New Years eve and stuff a bottle of champagne in my hand.

Yeah, my thoughts exactly, R.

You have to admit, though, that time is really flyings. I remember when there was 700+ days left and it doesn't seem all to long ago. I kind of feel for those recent GI's.

Ri My DH who works for an electric company told me about a meeting on y2k at the office. The man in charge of y2k tech problems was discussing how to stay in touch with the other electric plants and an engineer made a joke about it. Well, the manager had to separate the two and call for a break. Tension is very high and apparently the ones in charge are very worried. I just don't care anymore. I can't prepare anymore, except to buy more food. Everything is in place, relatives warned, family near by, I am waiting to exhale.

I've been preparing to one degree or another for around 20 years. I guess one thing that keeps me going is that I work disaster services as a county volunteer and I see the faces of folks who haven't prepared for even mimimal "natural" disasters and the shock these people are in when they arrive at the shelter (R/C). When I became a Dad about 10 years ago I got more serious about preps again.

I'll keep working on this until January 1, 2000 and beyond. Sometimes I almost wish I was ignorant of the perils of living in this world. Around here (75 miles noth or S.F.) floods, fires, wild weather and landslides are pretty common. Earthquakes are always a possibility, Y2k is on the horizon as is the solar maximum, and terrorism is a growing concern. Prior to November I'll lay in more stocks of gas, diesel, propane, food, meds, ham radio gear, clothes, spare parts, solar power equipment, etc., etc., etc.....

Well, at least life isn't boring (grin)....DCK

Love the art.

Though self-explantory in many respects, would anyone care to launch a caption writing contest for newbies?

:)

From: Y2K, ` la Carte by Dancr near Monterey, California

I feel now about how I did when I was three weeks post due with my son, eight year ago. I'm living half "Let's get this over with already!" and half "But I'm not re-e-a-a-dy!"
