Liability for brown outs and power loss?

Power companies do not pay for damages due to act's of God. They will not pay for a burned up T.V. or your computer if the cause was from lightning or from the wind. They will be liable if the damages were caused by equipment failure or employee error.

This Y2K thing can't be concidered an act of God.

If the power grid goes down or causes brown out's, will the power companies be liable for the damages?

Brown outs will burn up your electrical equipment. Long outages will spoil food, cause pipes to freeze due to no heat. Cause death to people that rely on the power to operate medical equipment. Lost time, due to down time in the industrial and commercal industry. Street lights and signal lights stop working. Traffic accidents are the end result. I can go on and on here.

Lots of losses, lot's of liability.

I know congress has passed a bill to limit the amount for law suits due to Y2K resulted damages.

Is there any talk of immunity to the power industry yet?

Not really an answer-- more along the lines of a tangent:

Is Y2K Covered? (State Farm Insurance web site)
