Here's What Will Happen On 9/9/99

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Nothing will happen on 9/9/99. It will be the day where the media, government and corporations will boast to the public that Y2K is nothing more than a hoax. The Doomers are looney people, all is well and this day has proved it once and for all. And 9/9/99 will be used from that day forward as a testimony that all is well.

And do you have verifyable proof nothing will happen on "close file" day?

Expect a new moon.

Nothing large scale will occur as doomers have learned to keep quiet on predictions and spin that none were ever made on 9/9/99.

Rasty is right. Nothing will happen on 9/9/99 and the government and the media will trumpet it to the public as 'proof' that no y2k problem exists. This state of affairs (sorry, Bill) will continue until very late December when it'll be "Gee, how come nobody told us about this?"

I realize that Rasty meant this as 'anti-doomer' post but even a stopped clock etc, etc. Trouble is, he will only be right until 01/01/2000.

Lobo, I'm the biggest doomer there is and good at reading and knowing what the next spin will be.

I might change my shorts on 09/09/99

-- Porky (Porky@in.cellblockD), September 02, 1999.

Rasty is correct, and his post didn't feel anything like a slam at doomers. The non-event of 9/9/99 will be used to deflect preps once again, and if y2k is anything over a BITR, people will die because 9/9/99 let them go back to sleep.

I thought 9/9/99 would not be a problem because computers read dates as 09/09/99 and in order for there to actually be a problem it would have to read as 99/99/99 which it won't. Has something changed since we were told this. I don't see anything happening on this date. Just as nothing significant happened on all the other doom dates. The only only one I fear is 01/01/00.

(1) I've personally worked on systems that used 09/09/99 as an end of file or other flag. So there will be some, few problems. I also agree that the lack of published failures will cause many to believe that there will be no problem come January 1.

(2) SPAM is on sale at the local Safeway...

I am definitely a dooomer -- I think TSHTF will occur 2000-01-01 through 2000-03-31 to 2000-06-30. And if it really piles deep, it will continue on through the rest of 2000, and into 2001...

That being said, I think 1999-09-09 will be a non-event!

So, when nothing happens then, ignore the pollies. Keep on truckin' (preparing).
