Squeezo Vs. Victorio Strainer, which is better?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

I have a victorio strainer that has served me faithfully for 10+ years. It leaks a little, and the white plastic cover dosen't seem to fit tightly, but no major problems.

We are considering buying a Squeezo strainer for processing persimmons. The victorio might do the job, but maybe not. Is the the Squeezo a better machine worth the extra money? Or should I just buy a newer Victorio?

Does anyone have the address for the Squeezo manufactuer?

I bought a Squeezo a long time ago and it has been a useful tool. I bought mine with the extra screens for berries and pumpkin. Over the years however, I have become concerned with aluminum in my diet. I have read a fair amount in the scientific literature about a relationship between aluminum in the brain and Alzheimer's Disease. I am not saying these are causally related...I am saying there IS an association. And for myself, I choose to minimize the amount of aluminum in my diet. Consequently, no longer use the Squeezo for acid fruits like tomatoes. I would buy the Victorio because most of it is plastic and thereby reduces the risk. My old Squeezo shows the years of squeezing tomatoes. I have the address, but not right here handy. If nobody else gives it to you, I will dig it up.

I got my Squeezo at a yard sale a few months ago for $15.00, and have used it for tomatoes and apples, with wonderful results. We did have a Victorio years ago, but lost it in a house fire. But I loved it too. I avoid aluminum too--but I cook down the tomatoes a bit first, and they go thru the hopper faster. They are there for just a minute (if that long), so I figure any absoption is at a minimum. I believe Johnney's seeds carries the Squeezo.

Leann, So if you had to pay full price would you spend the extra bucks for a squeezo? My husband thinks the aluminum in the strainers shouldn't be too big a concern, so It's mostly price right now. By the way, did your Victorio leak around the handle axel?

Thanks for the imput.

Hi, Kathy--I haven't had any chance really, to compare, and it has been years since I had my Victorio. But if I remember, the Victorio DID leak--but for that matter, so does my Squeezo. I have learned to wrap a small towel around the base of the machine, because it leaks a bit around the seal where the screen joins the machine. It is not a biggie; I get through with the job, and throw the towel in the wash. Like I said, I liked them both. Maybe you can save your money, or buy something else that might be useful in your kitchen!

Hi,

We sell the Victorio Strainer and they will leak a bit on the 200 model, however the newer model has been redesigned to take care of the leakage problems. They also added an extension to the end so you don't have to keep your bowls so close together and made the screens much easier to attach (they screw on like a jar lid, instead of the wing nuts). I think the main body is no longer aluminum, its cast steel with chrome.

I just bought a Victorio and found that the grinder cloged up very fast when I was doing tomatoes. I had to take it apart twice for just one large bowl of tomatoes. Did I have a bad Victorio or is this a problem with this machine? I returned it to the store and now I'm looking at the Squeezo. I also don't like the aluminim factor, my mother had Alzeimers - need I say more. Please let me know if any of you found this to be a problem. Thanks, Bonnie

Hello, Can you please till me if the Squeezo has the same problem as the Victorio with the strainer clogging up when doing tomatoes. Also if you have the telephone # of Squeezo Co. I'm in Michigan at this time and can't find a Squeezo anywhere. Thanks, Bonnie

Victorio is far better. Squeezo splatters terribly, but Victorio has a very good splashguard which surrounds the screen, with a chute molded right into the same piece, so it catches every bit and puts it all where you want it.

Bonnie, I know other people put tomatoes through raw, but I always cook mine before putting them through. It makes a much nicer end product. I never have had it clog up.

Also, Bonnie, make sure you are using the correct screen for tomatoes. There are other screens available for different things.

I was pleased to find this page of comments because I'm shopping for a strainer. Here's what I consider to be the best source of Squeezo Strainers and part. Where do I find info on Victorios?

Does anyone else think that they don't know what they are doing when they are using the Victorio? Mine clogs leaks and frustrates me to no end. I have pre cooked, it clogs, I have changed screens, as I have three, they all clog, I don't have any one close that has used one to show me the RIGHT WAY to use one of these. The person who recommended it to me moved before I bought it. Is there a book at the library on usage?
