Okaaay, ABA! You can come out from behind that curtain! We know you're back there. "Stick a nail in it???" It sounds more like "stick a fork in it" if the electrons go on strike.

Here's a joke for everyone who is not a member of the ABA:

Two atoms walk out of a bar. One atom stop suddenly and says, "Hey, I left my electrons in there!" Other atom: "Are you sure?" First atom: " Oh yeah! I'm positive."

Now, for the link you've all been waiting for:

In the worst case scenario, computers will fail, on 1/1/2000, and not recognize dates, or do arithmetic. This is highly unlikely, but if it did, rest assured the money-lenders of this world would immediately jam a nail into the fusebox, and keep the computers stuck in a time-warp of 12/31/99 until they had found a way of fixing the problem. When it comes to making money, no couple of digits in a machine will be allowed to get in the way!

Wow! That is reassuring!

I might add that the linked article is among the most incompetently written pieces I've seen on the subject of y2k.

I actually find myself in agreement with this statement (from the site):

"We must not be suckered into thinking that speculating on the Stock Exchange, either in stocks, or precious metals, or coins, is anything other than a sophisticated gamble. The recent killings in Atlanta vividly brought home the consequences of speculating. What goes rapidly up, also comes sliding down."

The market IS a gamble. Always was, always WILL be. So is buying precious metals for "speculative" purposes. If you want gold, buy gold. If you want to MAKE MONEY, gold is not the vehicle of choice.

The "the killings in Atlanta" were the result of a sicko who had been sick for a long time. Cynically using this event to cast aspursions on the freemarket system, in which speculation provides vital liquidity, is an insult to our intelligence. The writer is either a state socialist, brain-damaged or a congenital idiot (I realize I'm splitting hairs).

"if you want to buy gold, buy gold. If you want to make money, don't buy gold". AND IF YOU WANT TO KEEP MONEY, DON'T PUT INTO BANK!!

It's behind the Y2K Committee's website, oh course it is going to "toe their line."

Interesting too that the "Survey" on the government's site is full of "touchy feely" questions (Did you find this site visually appealing? Was it easy to locate? Do you use bookmarks? ...) but NO questions about "Was the information correct?" "Was the information useful in preparing against possible y2k disruptions?"

Holy moly. Baaaad punctuation.

"Should I take my money out of the Bank, come December 31st, 1999."

If you wait until 12/31/99, it will be to late.

I have just about had it with folks "ABA" telling me what to do with my money. Now they are telling preachers what to preach. Give me a break!!!! No one is saying, "Don't go to Las Vegas, you'll be throwing your money away." Or, "Remember, don't play the lottery because your chances are almost nill you will win." Or, "Will you just stop being stupid, you are already in debt up to your bottom, don't buy that fancy boat, rolex watch, or gold tooth pick.

I can buy my food, stove, wood, pay off my house, be debt free, dig a well (in the city if I want to), and sit back and enjoy the warm fire, hot soup, fresh water, and read my Bible. It's mine and God's money. He, my hubby and I decide what is to be done with it.

Maybe if the government (congress) spent money wisely, we wouldn't have a national debt.

Just had to let off steam. It's not a contengency plan, it's a way of life and I thank God he has taught us a new way to view the "God of Materialism"
