"Syphilis cases linked to Internet chat room

SAN FRANCISCO, Aug 24 (Reuters) -- Health officials in San Francisco tracking an outbreak of syphilis have discovered that the cases have a cyberspace connection: an Internet chat room."

I don't know about anybody else, but, I plan to wear protection from now on.

Can you just wrap it around the mouse? That would be a lot more convenient....

I was wondering why my hand was beginning to itch, do you think there's a connection? I'll be more careful next time....buzzz, buzzz, buzzz

Sometimes I feel a little sick to my stomach. Does someone here have a GI bug?

-- Mara Wayne (MaraWayne@aol.com), August 25, 1999.

Yep, the GI bug has been going around here for sure and some cases are very nasty, incurable. But Pollytinitis is much worse. The symptoms are foaming at the mouth, irrational jumping from thread to thread, and eventually leads to brain degeneration.

There is no fool-proof protection against those bugs, but using an anonymizer regularly will decrease the chances of at least getting attacked by one that is infected. The only fool-proof protection is to completely abstain from logging on this forum.

Doesn't Symantec have an upgrade yet that handles this virus, for those of us dedicated to practicing "safe computing"??

-- Brooks (brooksbie@hotmail.com), August 25, 1999.

Can anyone tell me where I can get a propalactic (sp) for my mouse?

-- Cherri (sams@brigadoon.com), August 25, 1999.

Tell me that story is a joke...please.

Actually Cherri, there is a such thing as a "keyboard condom". We used to buy them to protect keyboards from, uh, spills.

INteresting that this story gets widespread publicity just at the same time that the ONLY effective counter to Clinton's New's Networks (the internet) is being faced with threats of taxation (UN - of course, not by US government, censorship, covert monitoring by the FBI (make a list day!), covert transcription (by the NIS/FBI/IRS/bank networks), and claims of un-reliabliity and (again, and as usual) the regular quotes about " right-wing militant gun-toting religious nuts......."

Dear Louie, How can you cure it,(the virus)if you can't spell it? the real danger is IT opti-rectitus---Gamma rads from monitors causes a linkage of nerves between eyes and anus and this gives the operator a shitty outlook on life!

Robert

I thought the UN internet tax was a dead issue. More likly it just went in to hibernation. Bad ideas never die. But isn't that issue shelved by the UN at this time?

"Jeffrey Klausner, director of the sexually transmitted disease unit at the Dallas Department of Health, said that investigators quizzing the last seven homosexual men reporting syphilis infections were surprised to find that all seven found their most recent sexual contacts through a chat room on the InsideTheWeb bulliten board called Debunking Y2K."

ROFLMAO Mabel!!!!!!!!

In a follow-up report it was discovered that all homosexual encounters were by "trolls" (internet talk for disruptive posters to News Groups). The "trolls" were tracked back to a chat room known as "timebomb2000", where they are regular (and respected) contributors.

The reported cases of infection have tripled, much to the chagrin of the Timebomb2000 crowd. Self appointed leader Diane Squire had this to say, "I don't know how this could happen! We are such a loving cyber community. This just proves how "interconnected" (she says with a wink) we all are. Or not. *sigh*."
