The Navy report is nothing

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Ok, went to the davislogic site, read the whole spreadsheet report and came to a basic conclusion. SO WHAT !. Anyone who bothered to read the report saw it shows very little is listed to go wrong and those items listed as likely to fail show they dont have enough info to make a better judgement. Furthermore, is there anyone here who is truly expecting that there wont be any problems ?. Even if one town has problems in a state it doesnt mean TEOTWAWKI it means they need help. Anyone remember the massive floods a few years ago, it affected millions but they survived quite well. Doomers and Tinfoils didnt find a smoking gun with this one and just made the rest of us look stupid with another scare.

Fatass,

I remember back in May '98 when I first realized Y2k was going to be a global catastrophe. I have a background in cybernetics/complex whole systems, so I was quick to grasp the interconnectedness factor, the domino effect... People like you were saying that any concern whatsoever about the date problem was pure delusional hysteria, nothing more: "there IS no problem; NOTHING will happen." Now, as the bad news has rolled in, you've all gradually shifted your ground: "yes, of course it will be a problem; but it won't be a big problem and it's nothing we can't handle; it will probably hurt someone else, not you and me." You're whisltling in the dark, too proud to admit that you're wrong. And people who believe the lies you feed will die.

Degenerator, You assume I am one of the pollies who laugh at Y2k, but thats because you are blinded by your passion to scare the world to death. I have been preparing for some kind of problem from Y2k for a long time now and so have some of my friends. The doomers and foils are the problem, they want to see panic and if there isnt any they will try to create it out of any news they can find.

Beat it, Buddy.

Hey Buddy...have you downgraded to a -3 yet?

The truth is that frightening to you? Let's take a closer look at this: 1) Most people are not preparing. They are waiting until the last minute, which will cause a stampede and they won't accomplish their goal. 2) You are making preparations in order to survive this ordeal, which means you think it will be bad. 3) Faced with the choice between encouraging the oblivious to wake up and do something, even if only Koko's "3-7 days," and the alternative of urinating on your fellow preparers who think it's going to be rather worse than you would prefer to believe, you choose the latter: attacking fellow preparers.

Get some exercise for god's sake, and stop lashing out because of your fear that we're right.

Regenerator,

You dont get it do you, what I am pissed about is how JL took this report, refused to release it, scared alot of people who are already on the edge and cause a bunch of noise for nothing.

People should prepare, for 1 week at least or more if they can afford it. The problem is that the doomers and tinfoils WANT it to be so bad that people panic. If the sleeping masses havent got it now and dont pick up on it later, having them panic from a puffed up piece of news like JL's "Pentagon Papers" is like screaming "FIRE!" in a movie theater. JL isnt doing anyone a service he made a mistake that will likely ruin his credibility.

If he would have released more info and done it responsibily he would have done more for those of us who are watching this closely. Instead he tried to cash in on it and it will probably blow back on him and make alot of people look stupid.

Hey Regenerator,

I would be interested in hearing about your expertise in cybernetics and complex systems - its an area near and dear to my heart as I received an MSEE from OSU with a focus on neural networks and complex systems. What University did you study at and who was your Thesis Advisor? Regards,

What is wrong with the above statement? Last time I checked, Steve Davis was not on the Government payroll, much les a Government spokeman. Don't you think it might be a good idea to wait for a government report before making any conclusions?

Watcher7,

At least he had the guts to post the thing. My understanding is many trust him and is close to Koski. Even CBN is using that data.

To Lisa and the "a" creature. Yeah, right. I'm flattered.

Lisa, GO HOME, It's Friday night.

Fat Tony, the document you viewed at Steve Davis's site is NOT the original document. It was a document given to him by Koskinen.

I WANT THE PROOF OF THE ORIGINAL before I make any concrete judgements regarding the information provided by Jim Lord.

Right now there is no "official", government site that holds this documentation. Therefore, it aint official.
