Navy Predicts Y2K Failures August 20, 1999

WASHINGTON, DC - The Navy has issued a report that predicts major problems related to the Y2K bug.

The report predicts "probable" or "likely" failures in electrical and water systems for many cities because of the so-called Millennium bug. The Port of Seattle and Bremerton are both on the list of cities predicted to have total failure of electrical and water systems.

President Clinton's top Y2K adviser calls the Navy's conclusions overly cautious. He says they assumed that major utilities would fail unless proved otherwise.

Just weeks ago, a White House report said national electrical failures are "highly unlikely." The White House report also said disruptions in water service from the date rollover are "increasingly unlikely."

The study was updated less than two weeks ago. The most recent version predicts "probable" or "likely" partial failures in electric utilities that serve nearly 60 of roughly 400 Navy and Marine Corps facilities.

Unlike the WASHINGTON POST article (which apparently was printed on PAGE 15 of the front section), this article does not even mention the "fishy" explanation regarding the mysterious web site that the report was supposedly mysteriously pulled from recently.

Spin at its best (worst), ladies and gentlemen....

The Navy issued a report? Interesting way to look at it.
