A pet-store really isn't a good place to buy a kitten, if she is a Maine Coon she will have her pedigree papers, if so then the breeder's name will be on them and you can contact her and ask her advice. If you have no papers, then I'm afraid she isn't a Maine Coon. Black is one of the less usual colours, but some breeders do specialise in it so there are quite a few around. Whether she is a Maine Coon or not, please don't breed from her, she will not be breeding quality, breeding kittens are carefully placed - not sold through pet shops. Altering is the very best thing you can do for this girl, she will blossom and grow and look wonderful once this has been done. If you really want to breed, go to a cat show and talk to the people there showing Maine Coons because there is a lot to learn before you consider breeding which is expensive, time-consuming and stressful!
