HARRIS N. MILLER, President of Information Technology Association of America (ITAA) in testimony to the House Ways and Means Committee:

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

"You have asked ITAA to provide an assessment of the nation's Year 2000 preparedness. Let me go on record publicly with what those in the know are thinking and saying privately. We are very worried... The focus of conversation among those best versed in this issue is about how we are going to clean up after what appears now to be an inevitable train wreck. As a society, we are on the point of conceding failure. It's crazy. It's frustrating. It cannot be happening. But it is. Now the Smart questions have shifted to concentrate on contingency planning, crisis management, and liability. Lawyers are circling, and that is not a good sign."

Dear Sir Pro

Sir, are you ill? This is the third practical/doomer article in a row. If you can suddenly change so radically. Then there must have been something momentus which has happened to you. But keep up the good work! I'll welcome good news (with verfication, such as you have been posting this last little bit). As well as acept the Bad, such as you have been posting today...with it's verification of course.

We need to divert the funds for Hoffmeister's Brazil trip to Y2K Pro. Its obvious that the man needs some serious health care and I don't know if his insurance will cover it. Taz...who had to read his post twice to believe it!!

Could we have the link to the ITAA article? The "find here" went elsewheres. Thanks...Taz

It should be noted that this quote is from Miller's May 7th, 1998 congressional testimony. You can find the complete transcript on ITAA's website:

ITAA

You can also see Miller's most recent congressional testimony (August 4, 1999) regarding information security and critical infrastructure here:

8/4/1999

This is obviously not Y2k Pro. The bogus poster forgot to add the date of the quote - May 7, 1998. More timely quotes please.

Hi Taz!...The 'FIND HERE' link takes you to a Y2K NOTABLE QUOTES page. If you will scroll about 3/4 down, the posted quote from Mr. Miller is there, however, it is from May 4, 1998.

Here the link to the ITAA website: http://www.itaa.org/

Additional testimony as recent as Aug. 7, 1999 is linked at the upper right corner of the page....Have fun!!!

Duh!...Now I know why I don't post often...I retyped my reply to Taz three times, and =still= managed to switch the dates of Mr. Millers quotes, hit the SUBMIT button, only to return to the TB20000 forum to find two responses with correct dates =and= HOT LINKS!!!

I'm going back to what I do best....LURK!!!!

You people are super!

oh well, lurk and learn :)

Very little was said about the actual Y2k problem other then it was just a tip of the iceberg. This is what I concluded from Mr. Miller's recent testimony.

Well, we TRIED to advise him/her the polite way but since the address is bogus, we'll have to do it publicly:

Y2KPro:

You are done misusing the handle. I am simply going to delete any more. I suggest you try a new tactic.
