OT: Email question

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Sorry to eat up bandwidth here, but I don't really know where else to ask.

Is there any way to receive confirmation that an email was delivered?

Thanks, Tim

i know if you're on AOL and send an e-mail to someone else on AOL, you can check it's status or unsend it. you can't do that if it leaves AOL though. sorry i don't know more.

If it's not delivered (bad address, filtered out, etc.), you will get it back as "undelivered".

Thanks, Sarah and A, for your replies Tim

When I said filtered out, there are two types -- one set up by the ISP per their policy or by recipient's instruction re spamming or whatever, in which case intended recipient will never see it, and another where the recipient has set up a filter locally on his browser. In the second case he will have technically received it, but it immediately is routed to his trash folder. So he won't see it unless he happens to browse his trash before deleting.
