Translate foreign language websites

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

I just read a conversation on another thread [OT - Possible Ebola outbreak in Germany] in which a foreign language news article was discussed but was not translated into English for everyone to read. For anyone who is interested...

The search engine -AltaVista -offers an online translator. This site will translate words OR ENTIRE WEB PAGES. You can find it from the AltaVista main page or go direct to this address:

http://babelfish.altavista.com/cgi-bin/translate?

(Note: If a page is using "frames", you must first seperate the article out of "frame" mode. If you don't know how, just ask.)

As an example, copy this address (the page is written entirely in German) which was taken from the "Ebola" thread...

http://www.bild.de/news/aktuell/ebola04/ebola04.html

Go to the translator link provided above. Paste the address into the translator. Select the German to English option. Hit the translate button and give it a minute to come up. It doesn't always give a perfect translation but it usually is good enough.

Hope somebody finds this useful.

Hmm, two possibilities:

1.) Don't feed the trolls

Or,

2.) Rename this the Fear Factory

Because in the context of Y2K that is all this thread and the other ebola thread works out to be. Fear mongering and trolling. *Notice, I qualified that by saying "within the context of Y2K". You want to go study about the ebola virus fine, but leave it off TB2000, like your polished Moderators have already asked that you do.

Bingle (or anybody else)-

Just for clarification here... The intent of my post has absolutely nothing to do with revisiting the Ebola thread. I have only used the reference and address from there as an example. This translator can be used for MANY foreign language webpages.

Well then, I apologize for my rude behavior. I'll limit myself to just three outbursts a day.

LOL. Duly noted.
