Will Trade Non-Hybrid Seeds for......

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

We are a large non-hybrid seed company who is also preparing our homestead with necessary items. We are looking to trade non-hybrid seeds for all kinds of preparedness items. We will provide wholesale value of seeds against retail value of other items. If you have wanted to acquire a large amount of seed for yourself or for bartering after Y2K, this would be an excellent opportunity. Seeds WILL be worth more than their weight in gold after Y2K.

We are interested in all kinds of equipment and supplies including: Alternative power, farm and ranch equipment and supplies, defense equipt. and supplies, grain mills, water purification, MREs, food products, gardening equipt., first aid/medical supplies, medicine, and just sbout anything else you can think of.

Please contact Seedman at: msmy2k@aol.com

Seedman: "Seeds WILL be worth more than their weight in gold after Y2K."

Sorry Seedman. Your sales pitch doesn't wash. Nor your crystal ball act. Your statement above screams scare tactic.

Perhaps I've missed your contributions here. Or is this sales pitch your first post?

I hate to come on strong like this but potentially misleading thread titles irk me to no end.

Oh, I don't know, Bingo, if you calculate the per ounce price of flower seeds from outfits like Thompson & Morgan, I believe there are already varieties that would meet that criteria. [g] I think where Seedman is mistaken is that there may not be any way to distribute his organic nuggets of gold.

I know Brooks. I sat for a minute or two to calculate out prices!

I've seen too many posts such as Seedman's over the past nine months or so. They start a thread & never post again. I could be wrong on this one. We'll see, won't we Seedman.

If my memory is correct, Seedman has participated in this forum several times in the past. I don't know why you would feel that way. Personally, I think we should have a barter catagory. You put out there what you have and then you do your dickering using your email. I for one, intend to see if Seedman will barter for some books. I can't really think of anything I need, but could use more seed for the neighbors. Primarily, I have books to barter. The one, I can't seem to find, is a new book on medicine/medical care for y2k. I paid $99. It came from the web site Dear Karen. My medical skills already go beyond that book, so would rather have seeds for my money. Also have some old books that were written for the "back to the landers" in the 70s. These include: Small Scale Grain Raising by Gene Logsdon; The Solar Greenhouse Book from Rodale Press; Tan Your hide..Home tanning of leather and furs, a Garden Way book; The Family Cow, a Garden Way book; Keeping Warm, A sensible Guide to Heat Conservation, New Englander Peter Fossel; Wood Heat by John Viviam Rodale Press; Famine and Survival in America by Howard Ruff; Beginners Guide to Family Preparedness..Rosalie Mason. So, how about it Seedman? If you are interested, say so on the forum and I will send you my real email.

Well,

1st thank you Hannah for your support. Yes we would be interested in trading for old books. Think they'll be quite valuable in the near future. So, please send your e-mail address and we'll get working on it.

For Bingo1 and thinkican,

Don't you have something better to do than harass earnest people who are just trying to prepare. THIS IS NOT AN AD. You might have noticed that not only is there no $ transaction, but that we have offered our wholesale value for retail value in trade, this includes old books! I have received a number of e-mails since the post and we are trading lamps, books, and lot's of other good things. Too bad your wasting your time harassing people instead of contributing. That's all I'm trying to do. People need seeds and we need stuff, it's that simple.

Regarding your "weight in gold" and crutsl ball comments, consider this: If transportation is interrupted for any legth of time then local food production is all you have. If you're in Kansas, you've got wheat, in Indiana, you've got corn (hybrid, mind you), Colorado you've got beans, but if you need tomatoes and you're not in California you're out of luck and so is everyone around you. Now, if you happen to have a few oz., pounds, or whatever of every kind of vergetable, fruit, grain, herb imaginable you're going to be quite popular. If you consider that 1 gram of tomato seed will produce over 40LB of tomatoes, as well as another 5 grams of seed (from tomatoes you don't eat or trade), then 2nd season you have over 200LB of food from 1 gram of seed. How much is a gram of gold worth and can you eat it? If infrastructure goes down long-term, and local food production is all people have, then distribution is walking down the street and, if you have a large stock of seed (as I do, and those who are prident do as well) then you will always have excellent bartering material.

So, thanks for those who are interested in trading. Looking forward to us helping each other. To those who have nothing better to do than harass people like us, GET A LIFE!!!!!!

1) thinkican- in fairness, Oddone's led offer is even MORE of an ad than this is. It's OK. I don't have a problem with it as long as the rest of the work is via private e-mail.

2) Seedman. You are quite incorrect, as this is TRULY an advertisement, your prices are just not denominated in $US, but rather in oz of seeds per dollar value against equipment per dollar value. Intreresting exchange rates, I suspect, if I wanted my seeds in yen value for the Japanese gardeneing equipment....., we might have a problem.

Chuck

Bottom line not a true problem, though borderline per the guidelines above.

BTW Liked the analysis, didn't like the not really called for last paragraph. Give us a chance before you fire, huh? unless you happen to be of the ready, shoot, aim philosophy.

Chuck and others,

Thanks for the reconsideration. Sorry for the ready, aim, shoot but it kind of seemed like I got shot at pretty quickly. Anyway no harm. All dialogue will take place via private e-mail. Not trying to pump our company. Didn't mention our site or even company name. Just trying to do some legitimate trading with people in need of seeds. Thanks to those who have responded. Still interested in any inquiries. Please let me know.

Respectfully, Seedman
