Have you gained friends or acquaintances because of your Y2K associated beliefs? Have you lost any?

I want to be your friend Andy Ray.

I've not lost any but I have gained a few.

Yes. No.

I have found that my friends fall on both sides of the line on this, but, sadly, most are DGI's, or very fatalistic ("Whatever is meant to be, will happen--what can I do?") about it.

OTOH, I have relocated to a new part of the country to a town where many folks are preparing, the community is preparing, and I have a whole new set of friends. That has been one of the most positive aspects of Y2K for me.

Neither...

Andy Ray... Honest question... Why are you doing this? We all know publishers take forever to print something, so what is the basis of this line of questioning, given that the supposed book is a year away from being printed. In 2001, no one will care how the 1% made it through rollover, whether it was TEOTWAWKI, or a bump it the road.

head tilted questioningly...

In my studies of the reaction to the issue, I have collected thousands of quotes from people making fantastic and catastophic claims (in an effort begun 1 Jan 99). I plan to post these quotes on 3 Jan 00 on a website dedicated to giving pause to those who would practise fear-mongering in the future.

What is the "exit strategy?"

Well good luck to ya, and hopefully, if we are lucky, there will be a 'net and electricity on 010300.

Dear Dog,

The quote posted by the very helpful 'AndyRays@own.words' sums up one of two goals nicely. The other is to understand now and document for later the nature of the belief system of GI's to prevent what I admittedly view as a mistake in assessment.

I haven't lost friends, to my knowledge, though I'm missing some because I've had to focus on preparations. Throughout my life the friends I've lost have all been lost due to inattention on my part.

Dramatic losses may be yet to come... whichever way the cookie crumbles. If we get a BITR, folks may be sick to death of Y2K talk and push us away because we remind them of that. Alternatively, if it gets bad they may turn on us if we are unable to provide for many of them.

The only friends I've gained have been online..., here. This place will probably evaporate in any case. Y2K, ` la Carte by Dancr near Monterey, California

"A man is likely to mind his own business when it is worth minding. When it is not, he takes his mind off his own meaningless affairs by minding other people's business.

This minding of other people's business expresses itself in gossip, snooping, and meddling, and also in feverish interest in communal, national and racial affairs. In running away from ourselves we either fall on our neighbor's shoulder or fly at his throat."
