Sycamore bark -- toxic if burned?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : Countryside : One Thread

My 150 foot Sycamore tree is shedding its bark again and the yard is covered with the stuff -- it's thin, dry, and looks like great kindling. I'm afraid to use it around food though because I don't know if it's toxic or not. Any ideas? Thanks, Cheryl

I don't know about the bark, however the wood is used for butcher's blocks. The sap can be reduced down for syrup, however only mediocre in taste. The tree acts as a great water filter, the sap is a fine source of pure drinking and cooking water in areas with contaminated water.
