Polly filler (and water filtration)

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Inadvertently or not, the polly's on this forum are good filler, a respite from the serious discussions required to achieve personal y2k compliance. Their all probably preparing anyway. Now my question, would charcoal derived from burnt logs serve as a good filter for well-water. I'm thinking of mashing up a bunch and draining water through it, maybe on a couple of levels.
