Anyone seen article in Yahoo Internet Life Magazine

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Wife came home from the in-laws yesterday. While there she read an article in Yahoo Internet Magazine how Y2K was just a big hoax for people to make money. Apparently convinced the in-laws that y2k really was a joke since it said so right there in the magazine.

Has anyone seen the article...?? I can't seem to find it on their website. Is it really that "polly"...?

Anyway... anyone seen it...? any comments to that...?

Well, I wrote a Y2K article for Yahoo Internet Life that would have come out about now and maybe that's it (I don't subscribe), but I didn't really write about people making money, so maybe not.

Did a quick search of ZDNET's "Yahoo! Internet Life" site . Not much Y2K on there anywhere. Did find some Y2K Humor items published June 30, but not much else. YIL seems to be a site dedicated to "Hey, look at all the cool things on the Net! Buy something!"

Using "Yahoo! Internet Life" as a primary source for Y2K information is roughly akin to using The Shopping Channel as a guide for disaster preparedness.

Interesting coincidence. This item just appeared on that ZDNET page for which kevin provided that link: It's Official: Y2K Bugs May Spark Mayhem

The 2000 computer glitch is likely to disrupt the worldwide flow of goods and services, sparking havoc and unrest in some countries, a top State Department official said in remarks prepared for Congress and obtained Wednesday...

Print that one out for your in-laws. From the wunnerful folks at Ziff-Davis (and Reuters): Jacquelyn Williams-Bridgers, the State Department's IG, says the picture is getting clearer, and it's not pretty.

I just got my Yahoo Internet Life Magazine, and the above mentioned article is in it. I have only quickly read it and will read carefully tomorrow. It starts out really making fun of Y2K and what a hoax it is, but the last 1/3 of the article says to be 'prudent' and then lists several serious things that 'could happen', ie; get 2-3 months worth of medications (because the 'generics' are imported), prepare for brown outs. But the main thrust of the article and headline that people will see is "It's a big hoax, don't worry".

*sigh* I hope people read through the whole article because it is very contradictory.
