Paging Cory Hamasacki. What WAS that quote about giants and trolls?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

Come back, Cory!

I can't find that quote and nobody here seems to be able to find it.

What was it that you quoted back in '97 or '98?

It had something to do with these forums being inhabited by giants and possibly trolls.

Help.

It's bugging me bad. Please? Someone page Cory?

Trying really hard: Go to http://www.sonnet.co.uk/muse/dcwrp.html

There is a chart that includes everything that Cory has submitted on his website for the past 1,066 days. Happy searching!

Thanks, Bardou, but the link doesn't help, because that site doesn't have a search engine and I think he originally posted the quote to the newsgroup comp.software.year-2000 or some other newgroup.

I remember reading it there.

Thanks anyway!

--trying, Rick Cowles once used the below quote in his forum. Is this what you're looking for?

"On 13 Oct 1998 01:20:16 GMT, in comp.software.year-2000 Ron Kenyon wrote:

You find yourself in the company of giants - of many different backgrounds - some of whom would let you stand on their shoulders, if you could recognize them, and ask nicely.

And dwarves, some of whom would share useful magic, if you could recognize them, and ask nicely.

And trolls, among others..."

Bonnie,

That's the quote.

Do you have a link for the quote or an email for the person with whom it originated?

Also, is your email address as posted here your real email address?

(I've read some of your essays. They're deep. One reason you probably responded to this post.)

Thanks!

--trying, yes, I have always used my real e-mail addy. I'm sorry I don't have any other information about the quote. It's possible, since Rick used it not too long ago, that he might be able to answer you about an e-mail address for the poster. If you use something like, "Info on Giants and Dwarves quote?" in the subject heading, it should catch his attention. (He gets tons of mail.) Here's where to send him a letter:

Bonnie is one of the best reasons for getting a password to euy2k. She asks the questions I want answers to.

Shame on me. I forgot my manners in the above post.

--trying, you're very welcome!

Ya know, this here Cory Hamasaki dude (Japanese??) is vastly overrated!

He thinks the country will miss the deadline 'cause he assumes that we all PROCRASTINATE like he does. At this rate, Weather Report Number 124 will be completed sometime in February '00!

K. -

I personally view the WRPs, including 124, as "gifts", not essentials. They're nowhere near the priority of actually fixing systems and of making money to finance one's preps, both of which Cory's doing. If he makes the time to put together the WRPs, great. If he hits some deadline for publishing the next one, wunnerful. If not, he's still doing what's really important with the majority of his time.

Co ry's Posts to csy2k

Many thanks to Cory for his tireless, funny efforts to clarify Y2K issues. The Weather Reports are free gifts. Be grateful.

K. Stevens, I would personally be interested on how you have derived your opinion about Cory Hamasaki and his opinions, as stated in the above post.
