what is TEOTWAWKI?? new GI

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

I've been lurking for a couple of months, weighing the pros and cons of y2k. I have stocked up on some items (food, paper goods, propane, wood, etc.) I don't think there will be major disaster (10), but I want to prepare in case. Can always use extras at other times. I live out (have some acerage with a well and livestock). My question is "what is TEOTWAWKI?" I have seen this in several posts and I'm not sure what this is. I have found some useful info here and some not so useful (insane). Info to pass on...have two power plants in our county, both are stock piling coal, largest supplies ever!!! my work in state government has experienced several computer problems related to y2k upgrades(?). Our budget is frozen, we can now only purchase items on emergency basis. y2k related or state cutbacks? who knows? thanks, smokey

Ahhhhhhhhh. now I see! Smokey

-- Smokey (Smokey1057@aol.com), July 14, 1999.

Also the name of a song by the musical group R.E.M. "Its The End of the World as We Know It (and I feel fine)"

Let me see if I can embed a link to a site with the lyrics. Lyrics

TEOTWAWKI is beyond Y2K in the following years.

Smokey,

It's always intersting to know what The End of The World AS WE KNOW IT means to different people. To some, it may mean a 10-year global depression...to some it may mean not being able to get their favorite imported wine for a few months.

I wouldn,t lose sleep over it.every thing is right on schedule.if JESUS is coming back [physically] for a church, without fault. it,s gonna be a long time coming.maybe some hard lessons in store, but not THE END of the world.

We should have differant variations.

TEOTWAYKI The end of the world as YOU know it.

or

TEOTWAIKI The end of the world as I know it.

TEOTWAWKI: When you HAVE to cook your meals (in cans) on a habachi.

-- dw (y2k@outhere.com), July 15, 1999.

And with a little spin: "The end of the world as Washington knows it!"

Smokey -

The World As We Know It = ???

Different things for different people.

Naysayers would have you believe that any TEOTWAWKI is akin to a nuclear winter scenario. But virtually no one would agree with that. They use this insinuation to undermine the consideration of those whom they label 'doomers'.

TEOTWAWKI really is talking about disruptions that would throw the world into a great degree of fear and loathing, uncertainty and disorganization. For Americans that could mean not having a choice about what food they eat, or how much, or if they have electricity to burn or a job to pay the bills (if they arrive). Since we have not seen this knind of situation on a national scale since the uncivil war it would be a major, major sea change for most people.

That's my definition: chaos, disorder, joblessness, hunger, uncertainty, doubt, etc. Kind of like waking up in the third world not as a tourist.

TEOTWAWKI does not mean "The End Of The World" Just a change. Think, the automobile was the end of the horse and buggy days.

It is a fundamental change in the way we interact with the world around us. It may improve things, or it may be really bad. Most believe that Y2K is toward the bad side, and I understand TETWAWKI in this context as Devolution, or Depression

Different things to different people.

Keep the faith

Nah.......or al-d or whoever you are today.....

If you MUST insist of constantly throwing in Scriptural references, at least try to do it accurately so you don't mislead others please.

The reference to Jesus coming back for a church without 'fault' is not referring in any way to the actions of the people......if it was, Christ would NEVER return.......people just aren't that perfect!

The church is merely seen as being without fault because all of its faults have been taken care of by God himself.....Once again, it is revealed that your gospel is one of being 'perfected in the flesh' which is the biggest abomnination of all and although I'm sure it is unwittingly, it still makes a mockery of the true message of hope to all mankind.

Craig? Is that you? He, who was frothing at the mouth over my post "Clinton and Gang fooled again......"?

Damn it if you don't sound reasonable on this thread! What set you off with the Russian post?
