Does anyone REALLY think that we will get +80% of the systems in the U.S. fixed by roll over????????????????

Most Americans do, but "think" is not the right verb to describe the associated mental activity.

Not a chance.

Does anyone really expect the "80%" of the systems "fixed" to be 100% operational without any other new issues?

uh, not.

But heck...I don't know. I'm just being realistic. Maybe if we wish really, really hard.

My company, a major independent oil company, is at about 65%. Of course, that just counts systems, not chips, and we started in 1997. Bummer that the payroll system seems to be one of the bugaboos.

My company, also a major oil producer, are 99% ready at the end of June. The last 1% is waiting for actual confirmation of compliance from our vendors and in all those cases, detailed contingency plans have been made. All systems tested, all systems working. Backup power and fuel are ready also. Will there be some problems.......surely......but most likely manageable....... It's not all doom and gloom out there you know.

eeegads DogGone!

You know how to thrash the best of hopes! Just when I was buying into the "everything will be local, no major problems" government spin : (

eh, NOT.

Thanks for helping me keep my eye on the ball.

O yuck Michael. Why don't you and Big Dog get a hotel room. You can spend your little love-in stroking one anothers egos.

-- sextherapist (sextherapist@bigdog.org), July 12, 1999.

Dear Sextherapist,

In all honesty, I'm a happily married man who isn't interested in stroking anything that the Dog has. And, if you really knew me, you'd know that I don't even really have an ego. I'm really open to any point of view and my mind is NOT made up yet which way Y2k will go.

In fact, I just read Craigs response and I'd like to say congratulations to him and the company he works for. As someone who is trying to be very sincere I really do hope that this is the way the majority of Y2k projects turns out.

However, as someone who is working within an industry where deadlines are part of the normal working situation it gives me a little insight into the fact that that means they ALWAYS slip for some reason. I am a little cynical in that respect.

We may well be on the same mission which is to get real answers to what is coming our way.

And, that really gets down to what motivates me. It isn't about being right about anything. I want to make sure I'm able to protect my 3 year old son as much as possible from what ever might be coming.

Sextherapist, I hope that gives a little insight into me. I'm really not worth much, especially your getting bent out of shape over.

Thanks for your reality check too.

Craig;

Has your company found and tested all of it's embedded chips yet?
