Does anybody have a local copy of that article from Israel's Business Arena?

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

The article is quoted in Milne: Gartner Group now rates US at 12th in remediation status.

Here is the quotation:

"The Gartner Groups Y2K update, presented to the US Senate, places Israel in the group of best-prepared countries. The group includes Australia, Belgium, Bermuda, Canada, Denmark, the Netherlands, Ireland, Israel, Switzerland, Sweden, Britain and the US. The countries are listed in descending order, which means that Israel is eighth, whereas the US has only the 12th place worldwide."

The URL cited is http://www.globes.co.il/cgi-bin/Serve_Arena/pages/English/1.2.1.7, but that article has been replaced by another.

If anybody has a local copy (saved or cached) of the Y2K article, could we have it? Post it to the forum, or e-mail me.

Thanks.

Thank you very much.

FWIW, I think this article is a deception on the part of Israel's Business Arena: they changed "Holland" to "the Netherlands" and "UK" to "Britain" so they could claim that the list is not alphabetical and tell their readership that Israel is ahead of the UK and the US.

Thanks Lane. This does appear to be the case. FWIW....I'm certain this entire subject has been a deception on the part of EVERYONE to save what little time is left in alot of various 'arenas'!

Well, I'm not so sure anymore....

"Gartner Group Predictions of Failure for Countries

"15% Australia, Belgium, Bermuda, Canada, Denmark, the Netherlands, Ireland, Israel, Switzerland, Sweden, the U.K., and the U.S.A."

(in the US Senate report, nearly at the end)

Those are the "Tier 1" countries. Whether or not anything was changed in the names listed in the Arena article, I think it is clear that it's simply false to assert that there's any significance in the order of the countries.

I see now that Hoffmeister has posted this link on another thread:

http:// www.senate.gov/~y2k/hearings/030599/gartner.html (slide 10)

So, I'll stick with my original opinion.

Descending order is highest to lowest (or worst to best) at least in the computer applications that I use. If there are 12 countries listed in descending order, then the first country listed is #12 and the last country listed is #1. Using this logic, the US ranks higher than all others.

Correct me if I am wrong.
