This forum as a giant NEIGHBORHOOD WATCH GROUP

greenspun.com : LUSENET : TimeBomb 2000 (Y2000) : One Thread

On the Y2K and Terrorism briefing on C-span last night there was some emphasis placed on the effectiveness of local neighborhood watch groups in thwarting looting, breakins, bombings, etc.

In describing to others what this forum is really about I believe I am going to refer to it as one big neighborhood watch group. Looking for clues, reporting them as they appear, informing others in hopes of cushioning the full impact of Y2K failures.

So nice to feel that sense of "community" that is desperately lacking nowadays in this country. Too bad it takes something like y2k...but better late than never.

Unfortunately, there would appear to be a lot of CLUELESS people posting on this forum.

I expect them to remain CLUELESS despite the number of failures.

Another nice thing about this forum is that the combination of polly/doomers ensures that we get to meat of a topic in pretty short order.

I definitely agree with you on that "a". Personally, I think that is the best answer to those who complain and/or question why "pollys" post here. I also believe that too many here jump to the conclusion that all pollys have devious ulterior motives in posting to this forum. Too many dismiss the possibility that some pollys may have sincere, unresolved questions which they (regardless of their approach) would like to see run through the meat-grinder. No doubt about it, having both doomers and pollys here keeps the playing field level.

How about...keeps us level headed while negotiating an uneven playing field, heavily tilted by spin, and gross lack of solid leadership at all levels from head of family through heads of state.
